    RODAK

Yes...Weston Surprise was a son of FA Cadet 20D, who was a son of FA Warrior 41st. I have to say Myostatin came to mind when looking at the muscling of these bulls. Personally, I follow the philosophy of avoiding extreme phenotypes, so I’m thinking hard about this. Looking at the progeny of...

    RODAK

Oakview, that would be so interesting to see. I will PM you. Even if you just take a picture of a picture and send it Ill be so happy. Even though I now own a son of Weston Surprise the 14th, I don’t really understand the phenotype of WS14, now that I found a photo of him. I was expecting him...

Heritage heifer, DMH Cherry Blossom 2019

I’m still working on this. I was able to buy one of the Maid of Proise 189 sons, What A Surprise, by Weston Surprise 14th, from CSB Shorthorns in North Dakota. I also bought a Maid of Promise family cow by DMH BAXTER, a DMH Minn Max Leader son. Baxter’s dam is by DMH Private Selection, a Leader...

Heritage heifer, DMH Cherry Blossom 2019

I like Maverick for that because he is a real cow maker from what I’ve seen. I wonder if that is a Perfect Count trait. The dam of DMH Snowflake was a 189 daughter...the only daughter I know of. I’d be interested to hear your opinion on the Haumont combination that made the 189 cow so good. I...

Heritage heifer, DMH Cherry Blossom 2019

First time around she is bred to my red Galloway bull because his calves have been  so well shaped and vigorous. Maybe next year I will just let her run with her paternal half brother, DMH Felix just to see the result.

Heritage heifer, DMH Cherry Blossom 2019

This is a bred heifer that I acquired because of the breeding on her dam. The dam is a DMH Maverick daughter out of a DMH Minn Max Leader daughter. Maverick and Max were both out of the Haumont Maid of Promise 189th cow. I wanted to keep the 189 cow influence and I think that plan is working out...

Lincoln Red x Native Shorthorn x Galloway

Or this Galloway. The AGBA recently made this color pattern unregisterable, but I like it. Speckle Park sure has had success with this pattern, although I think the more outstanding attribute of Speckle Park is carcass quality.

Lincoln Red x Native Shorthorn x Galloway

She was standing there just like a show calf so I thought you guys might like the picture. This is an April born heifer that has never had grain. Her dam is a a young commercial black Galloway. The sire is a Heritage Shorthorn Bull, DMH Ollie. Ollie was sired by a Lincoln Red and his dam was a...

    DMH Ollie Galloway influenced heifer

DMH Ollie was a bull I used last year and then sold to some Grassfed beef producers with Devon cows. Ollie was a Lincoln Red/Heritage Shorthorn cross. I had several calves by him this year and all came super easily. They were just very well shaped for easy calving. The previous year I had one...

This yearling bull has had no grain since February (January?...I remember it was 10 below zero in Sleepy Eye) when I brought him from Minnesota to Nebraska. Then cross country to NY the first of June. He has never gone backward and I've seen nothing to indicate he wont be the frame 4 old style...

Bump. The Heritage Yearling bull I just posted is by a Weston Resource son, DMH Mr T. DMH had some good Red Bull calves by him last year, maybe more this year? He also has Lincoln Reds. I used a Lincoln Red x Heritage Shorthorn last year. His dam was a Minn Max Leader daughter. The calves came...

    Heritage Yearling

Since I got him in February he has had no ration besides prairie hay and grass. Very calm animal that moves fluidly and has plenty of libido.

Is there a good 50% Shorthorn-50% plus bull out there.

As with all good things, there are no real shortcuts. I think would have to grow your own with some good Angus genetics and the best of your own Shorthorn.Everyone has their own ideas about what a good bull is, so just start with a good Shorthorn cow.and try not to go backwards.
