New Calf problem: Need some input

I didn't want to rule out naval infection either but I have never seen it hit them so fast. I was told that they are spraying navals with iodine at birth and giving shots of antibiotic to help combat any infections...personally, I don't like to spray navels unless I am standing there the second...

New Calf problem: Need some input

Good thought but it doesn't involve the muscles, it only has involved the hind leg joints namely the hock joints. It is very rapid and the joint becomes enlarged within 24 hours after birth. Besides the joint swelling, the calf acts normal. Thanks for the input though.

New Calf problem: Need some input

I have had a group of E.T. calves being born at another location. All of the calves are strong and healthy with the exception of two which happen to be litter mates. One had to be put down and the other is showing the same symptoms so I am sure the prognosis is not good. There have been three...

what to breed hairy bear heifer to?

I will tell you right now that you can't lose on that heifer! Her momma is in Mr. Lautner's herd. I was hoping to keep that female in my back pocket for a while because I think she is going to be a dream machine. You make sure and keep me posted on her! I will wave the chicken on that daughter...

    Strictly Business Cow

Sorry, I didn't see this thread earlier. Nelson 26T2 is PHA and TH clean homozygous black and we are about 99% sure he is solid. Not a lick of white yet on cows that are definitely carrying color. He is horned however. We are very excited about this bull and we are keeping very close tabs on the...

    Anitfreeze

Blake, I wouldn't wash one with antifreeze. Very dangerous! However, you can use windshield washer fluid to freshen one up when it's cold. For example, do a complete wash in a place where it's warm and the water won't freeze. The next day, if you need to show/display cattle, you can use a fogger...

Marketing new sires - What would you do???? How far is too far??

Really, after two years you have to dig this up again? You should have called, I actually have a 2inch binder with all of the posts that I printed from another website as well as this site. It's a great reminder of how hurtful and thoughtless people can be. I am shocked that during this season...

LOL, I would highly doubt it.  Just sticking to the Club Calf Sale and focusing on the donors.  I know we all have a different idea of what a cow dispersal is but by definition it simply means the act or process of dispersing or the condition of being dispersed; distribution. dispersal...

Anyone ever eaten bone for dinner?

Ah ShowSteaks, you have been christened. Personally, I don't care for bone steaks nor do I like to pay extra for them at the market.  HOWEVER... most of my plate meals do not pass through the show arena before finding their way to the grocers counter. So, you must understand that you are SHOWING...

    Maine Genetics lost forever.

That is a case of "it is what it is".  You would have to walk a mile...well, maybe just a block...in the Phillip's shoes to even begin to understand the situation.  It's probably best not to be too judgmental. Their hard times have not been simply from the drought.Hopefully they won't look at...
