    Range Magazine Spring issue

There was a post on here over the winter and the topic now fails me-- I think it was one of the water conservation/water rights posts about what is going on in Oregon.  Someone attached a copy of the Agenda 21 article out of the RANGE magazine.  I read this completely and then went to the range...

New info on DS from the ASA.

I hope that this is not just a Shorthorn "problem".  Being new to the topic of DS-- is this found in Angus, Simmi, etc. also? If it is just a Shorthorn item-- that's just what we need to gain acceptance in the market place (as I am making a somber face).  Why the he## would anyone want a...

what does your County Fair give out for awards?

In our neck of the woods- our county orders the same style of ribbons each year so that leftovers from years before can still be used the next year if needed.  They are generic ribbons in all the usual colors- purple, lavender, blue, etc.  with the county and placing printed on them.  The...

    What to breed heifer to?

Zac: This may not be a popular answer for some folks, but she is a heifer-- let's get a nice live calf.  I would go a Calving Ease black angus or calving ease red angus.  I guess this is just me-- but I don't worry about getting that barn-burner show winner calf out of a 1st calf heifer-- it...

Iowa Beef Expo Sale or Show Results

Thanks for the Shorthorn update.  For the unofficial numbers that Sue posted-- does anyone have an opinion on why some of the bull final sale prices down or "deals"? EF

    Muridale Buster 14K

I have been searching for Muridale Buster 14K semen for awhile also.  I have posted on here over the years with no luck.  I am guessing that the few who still have some are hanging on pretty tight.  I do have a few embryos left sired by 14K and my Creole cow.  I am really hoping that my next...

Registering Crimson Tide Heifer as Shorthorn Plus ????

Yes you may need a certificate since it is an AI calf from Crimson Tide- sorry I missed that in your other posts.  Call the ASA office to see who they have listed as the current certificate seller for Crimson Tide, also check to be sure that you will definitely need one.  Then contact the...

Registering Crimson Tide Heifer as Shorthorn Plus ????

To me that means that he is already in the list-- now you just need his ASA number. What about your dam?  Is she a commercial  or a clubby or another breed cow?  If she is, know you will have to go through the Paperwork with ASA to get her listed and you will probably have to pay a fee to get...

Registering Crimson Tide Heifer as Shorthorn Plus ????

To my knowledge there is no place on the ASA website to see a list of "Other Breed" bulls or cows that may have been added to the registration list so that you can register progeny.  Example:  I use a Red Angus bull on my Shorthorn cow and get a 50/50 calf.  To register that calf I will need...

You Canadien's are about to make me mad

Feels somewhat like a heatwave today in SW Iowa.  All the cattle are sure gobbling down the hay in the cold to generate heat, but that is ok-- they are all pretty fat and sassy anyway.  We fortunately haven't had to have a diesel started through all this, so hopefully next time it will be...

up to 150,000 dead cattle in South Dakota

I guess I do my budgets and farm figures differently: I do include the cost of the dirt those cows are standing on-- it has to be paid for somehow.  The calves are the commodity coming off of that ground and the farm costs have to be covered:  feed, taxes, ins., land. Just how I do my figures. EF

Family Legacies Sale-- Studer and Friends

Obotoks:  It was a great sale weekend.  I was able to get lots:  38a, 46, and 51. 2 bred heifers and 1 heifer calf.  Got them home and fed them the first night and #51 is definitely showing that she isn't shy! LOL  about ran me over when she saw the feed bucket coming!  I chose them due to the...

Family Legacies Sale-- Studer and Friends

Great day with great cattle, great people and great food!  Once again the Studers and friends have outdone themselves! Sale was brisk with a lot of great cattle going all over the US Lot 1:  3500-- definitely a bargain in my opinion-- bulls are only going to get more expensive 2:  4500 2a: ...

XBAR Should be his campaign manager

I have been reading this post and now what to add a couple comments. What did this Kinky guy say about South Dakota Cattle tragedy.  Does someone have a link to the statement?  My thoughts and prayers are with the cattle ranchers out there.  I have a small herd in comparison to South Dakota...

    Lambrecht Chevrolet Sale

Ok- Steerplanet members from the Pierce NE area-- what is the story with this dealer? I am watching the History channel special about the sale right now and can't believe what I am seeing!  Did the rest of the family finally say- "ok, we want our money- get rid of the cars"  Who has the...

    Maternal traits Marellan Super Dazzler

Librarian: If you ever collect semen on Amos-- let me know- I would be interested in purchasing! I think using the red angus/galloway mix to keep the hardiness in your cows will definitely work out. I also cross red angus onto some of my shorthorns and the calves are always awesome!  The...

    Maternal traits Marellan Super Dazzler

Man- I wish you were closer to Iowa!  When you are done with Amos, I would have been interested in using him! I think the transportation logistics would be prohibitive at this point. Keep doing what you are doing-- it appears to be working in your part of the country and the cattle are...
