    Flush Option for Angus Cow?

Well the results of the flush to Resource have been nothing but phenomenal.  3 bull calves have all been high sellers, the daughters have been fantastic and I'm keeping the best bull calf yet.  He's pictured below and so is a first calf ET daughter from this mating.  We are going to flush the...

    Angus heifer help

In my experience there's some angus heifers who will get fat around their tailhead no matter what.  Truthfully those are usually the better cows but they don't make great show heifers.  Best bet is to lower the fat/energy and increase the protein in the ration.

    NYK Bull Pictures

Kids, cows, and off farm jobs (and we recently added a herd of boer goats to the situation) makes for a crazy life. Yes I've seen good things thus far from Capitalist so that's why I thought I'd keep this guy and give him a shot.  His dam is a nice cow too. These bulls are for sale privately...

12E certainly should be a cowmaker. Bismarck, Kodiak, Resource, Net Worth, EXT all lined up in his pedigree.  4E is nice in that he is a calving ease option with Resource in the background. Which get back to my argument that resource, despite his BW and CE epds, can be a very useful bull.

Hi Knabe.  12E is a son of MacGyver as well.  His dam is the Bismarck cow I have posted on here before.  He has her exceptional rib shape and his sire's muscle shape.  He's pretty cool.  Low birth (80lbs) and he was the heaviest when I last weighed them (1200lbs mid December). Born early...

    NYK Bull Pictures

Thanks Kibler!  4 is sired by my Resource son, MacGyver.  9 is off my Bullseye son I bought.  He was a favorite all summer. We showed him this fall and he won his class.  25 was an in-dam purchase last fall that makes me look smarter than I really am  (lol)! His sire is a Connealy Capitalist son...

More bulls.  23E is a favorite and 25E is being retained for use in my herd.  Both are march born bulls.

It finally warmed up enough to snap some pictures of the bulls.  One kid is sleeping in the idling side by side about 10 feet in front of the bulls and another is watching movies in the barn while my wife and I frantically try to clean up bulls and take pictures.  Life with little kids is all...

    Docilty scores

I would say, as with any other EPD, as long as the accuracy is high the numbers breed true.  Those bulls have stupid calves compared to bulls with better docility epds in general. Think of an angus bull that has generally gentle calves and look at his score.  Then think of a goofy one.  Look at...

    Top Angus Sires by Registrations

FWIW I've never seen Final Answer semen go for much more than $250.  Lots of sons out there who do most of the same things.

His son Capitalist is on the list.  Like Knabe said, his death has caused the semen price to skyrocket so the numbers aren't going to be there.

    Top Angus Sires by Registrations

CAB - That is exactly what I meant about sires that are consistently marketable.  Sometimes, for better or worse, a "name brand" sire is what pays the bills.  It is what it is.  Just part of the business.

    Top Angus Sires by Registrations

I agree. Something like how the music charts say: weeks on the list, highest ranking, and placing on the previous list.

    Top Angus Sires by Registrations

Ya we all know AI sire from big programs get over-used and over promoted.  No sense complaining about that. That's like complaining about seeing seeing another Chevy truck ad or a Ford truck ad that says they are the top seller for the millionth year in a row.   The real info on that list lies...

3 generations Bull to Grandsire progeny- Shorthorn

I still like that bull and I think he'll do a lot of good for you and your program.

    SAV Resource Herdsire

Thanks Rusty.  As I've said before his strengths in my opinion have always been his length, feet, scrotal, head, muscle, docility, and his dam. I'd like to see him straighter topped and hairier but that's pretty minor in the real word of raising beef cattle.

    SAV Resource Herdsire

I know another Resource post  ::) but I always find it interesting to look at an animal at their 3 stages of development all side by side.  Here's my SAV Resource son NYK MacGyver 5C as a calf, as a yearling, and as a 2 year old.  All pics taken at the end of October at MB Ag-Ex. p.s. I...

    High birth weight Angus bulls

I don't know the pedigrees or the types of your cows but in my experience a 1500lb cow will have no issues with a 95lb calf. If you are planning to retain a bunch of heifers those bloodlines are pretty close to last on my list for maternal function however.  In my opinion the poor performance in...
