Photos from the Great White North (pic heavy)

Haha Uluru no this was the scene yesterday once the blizzard subsided.  Lots of 10 feet plus tall snow banks and it's -35 Celsius.  Winter is back.

    Genex semen catalog 2017

Think that was a son...this is the Genex video for Chisum.  He still looks better here than any pic they've ever posted of him though. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2-eSgCamxQI

    Genex semen catalog 2017

Yeah Chisum certainly has some valuable traits but his topline is not his strong point.  He drops pretty good behind the shoulders.  I think that was the reason for the head down pic.

Mark - I appreciate that.  We just breed the kind we like and they are what they are.  I prefer cattle with a bit of bone and hip in them.  I try to avoid much of the show blood or the hardcore calving ease (like -2 bw and down) stuff.  Our weather and market demands a bit more substance to the...

Thanks guys.  They are all purebred Angus calves.  Pretty proud of the group.  Most of them are off of home raised sires this year, NYK MacGyver 5C and NYK Graceland 39B.  Also walked a MOGCK Bullseye son.

Caught some pics of this year's calves last night.  These are mostly 2-4 weeks old.

    Phenotype Angus Bulls

SAV Brilliance is the first one that pops to mind with those parameters.  Most of the "show" bloodlines have bad docility and scrotal epds.

    Angus bulls

I did break down and buy 10 straws on a EXAR Classen son, EF Colossal.  I also bought 10 of his maternal brother EF Titan (SAV Harvestor) who won Supreme Bull at Canadian Western Agribition (our version of Denver I suppose).  Normally I stay far away from show winners (and Express blood in...

    Angus bulls

You might as well be speaking chinese as these bulls are about as far from my program as it gets.  However, i came across some GQ sons in a catalogue (lots 19-22) recently that you may like to look at.  Not my flavor but they might enlighten you somewhat...

    C C & 7 bull calf

He looks really good Aussie.  He's so clean in his lines for having that much performance.  Imagine if you added 2" of hair to him?  He'd fit up and compete with the best of em over here.  Nice calf  (thumbsup) p.s. I hear it's awful hot in Australia right now.  Hopefully you are keeping well.

3 more Resource sons from the parents place.  I love the skull he puts on them all.

    Chapter Angus Herd Bull Suggestions

I believe it is. Canadian Sires carries it here but it is hard to get.  Flesch Angus won the pen show in Denver last year with a pen of them.  I am pretty sure they have a son in the Accelerated Genetics book.

    Who's your favorite?

Personally prefer the Pioneers.  Final answer may be a bit deeper (not much) but shorter made, smaller framed.  In our herd the Pioneers have made better cows.  I'd say Pioneers are better fronted too. Attached a pic of one of the many Pioneer daughters in production.  Not a special cow, just...

    Chapter Angus Herd Bull Suggestions

I would have touch of concern breeding a "calving ease" herd to Xcaliber unless, like Mark said, the herd management is on point.  He does have a lot more bone than many other sire lines.  The VRD and Upward suggestions were made with the thought that most of their BW comes from length as...

Higher losses before weaning for lighter birth weight calves!

Great point Mark and XBAR.  Much easier to manage any and all calving related issues if you know what you are expecting.

    Who's your favorite?

Depth, fancy front end and good udders it's hard to beat Bismarck or Brilliance (a son). Primo looks like he may be made in a similar mold albeit completely unproven.  Good old Final Answer also made some pretty deep and attractive females but I did not use him much.  Favorite female makers - HF...

I already asked my Genex Rep to  look into his availability in Canada.  That calf looks frickin awesome!  <party>
