    Barn ideas

A couple suggestions. The fan outlets are great to have. I took an extra step and put them on a switch, so I can turn them on and off without using the rocker switches on the cords. As far as the floor drain, it depends how many you plan to wash. I have an interior drain that I couldn't get...

Club Calf Producers/Traders that have kids showing

We are in the same boat. Last year we put every calf in a sale, and set a price that we were going to spend on calves for the year. Once we set our price to spend, we shopped a lot of cattle sales including our own. The heifer below is one I raised, consigned to our sale, and ended up bringing...

led chute lights at Iowa Beef expo

I found 4' LED shop lights at Walmart for about $25 each. I just zip tie them to the chute. They were by the fluorescent light bulbs. I was pretty satisfied with them this past weekend at Iowa Beef Expo. They are only 1" in diameter and fit inside the halter door of my upright showbox.

    Facebook Cattle Page

Pudenz Family Show Cattle. We started ours as a person instead of a business. It will limit us to 5000 friends, but if we get that many followers, we will have to switch to a business page. https://www.facebook.com/pudenzshow.cattle

    Preventing injuries while breaking in

That means you have two weeks before you have to put them in a chute to clip. I say you spend an hour a day working on the trust factor and by day 5, you own that calf's full respect. Then you start training to show. Feet placement, working hair, rinsing, tying head up. Commitment isn't easy...

    Homemade Calf Warmer

I just picked up a 250 gallon chemical tote with plans to convert it to a calf warmer. Any suggestions, do's and don'ts?

    Preventing injuries while breaking in

I had a coworker introduce breaking to me in a different light a couple years ago. I used to tie them to a wall and let r buck. Now I get a calf in a 10X10 pen by them self and start with a broom or show stick and get the calf used to being touched. spend 10-20 minutes doing this and then you...

5.5 day Sync let me down

I have done it for two years now and believe in the program. I time breed cows at 72 hours and heifers at 66 hours. This year, out of 5 head I got three cows and 1 heifer on the first breed. The 5th was our show heifer, so she had a bit more stress than the rest. I also ran the program on 20...

    Maine CE Bulls

I spent a lot of time this past year debating this topic for a maintainer heifer I was going to breed. Breathe Easy calves hadn't grown well for us I'm the past, and Cpmfort Zone and Friskey Whiskey werent proven enough for me. A trausch rep said Carpe Diem could throw the occasional big calf...

who pulled the me vs trausch thread

Having spent time picturing and videoing sale calves for the past 5 years for our own sale, It takes time to learn how to picture calves well. I dont know Kim or Jason, but they will learn what it takes. I'd say looking at the pictures and video for their sale, they need to invest in better AV...
