Any thoughts on cattle shows being held this summer?

Nebraska State Fair is a go.  I hope so, but I have to wonder.  Grand Island NE has the strongest concentration of Covid-19 positive tests in the nation.

    Anyway to gain width?

Well, this is a tough one. First off, I don't see him as "fat necked".  He is good chested and obviously not pencil necked.  However, I don't see his neck as unattractive at all.  It is the kind of neck that looks pretty good when they weigh 1250+ pounds. I don't see him as exceptionally...

What's your vision of a Grand Champion Steer

No offense, but this is far too broad of a question to get any traction on this message board. What is YOUR idea of the ideal look of a fat steer with no regard for soundness???

    slick shows

Black and Slick don't go together at all. I personally hate slick shows as well as blow and go.  The biggest learning opportunity for cattle selection revolves around fitting.  We went to ONE blow and go show and we were done after that.  Why any show official would eliminate fitting is...

Houston stock show and rodeo canceled???

I get the math and have seen many comparisons to other outbreaks from out past, Swine Flu being the most common.  What if we had handled the Swine Flu with the level of seriousness that we are handling Covid-19?  Could 10,000 lives have been saved in the US?  Maybe half a million world wide? ...

    This kids...is a show steer.

I have no idea who the people are selling this thing, but WOW!  Watch the video!  This thing is way cool. https://www.steerbiddersales.com/cgi-bin/mmlist.cgi?steerbidder13/9

    Fort worth steer show

I kinda figured the Champion was probably an MAB until they named his sire.  The best "Herefords" I have seen have mostly been out of MAB.  Nonetheless, nice steer.

    Fort worth steer show

I assume you were there.  I saw some pictures and cell phone videos of a few classes.  It looked like there were 5 or 10 that could have been used and nobody would have said a word about it!  It is incredible the depth down there! So, if you were there......were the "Herefords" really...

    Fort worth steer show

I get what you are saying here, but how in the world would you weigh 1500 steers as they are walking into the ring?  That would be an absolute nightmare!

    Fort worth steer show

This is the steer that really caught my eye from all of the photos and cell phone videos I saw.  I wasn't at the show. This steer was the reserve exotic. I looked at all of the show ring photos that Showtimes posted.  Every time I saw this steer in a show ring picture (and there were a lot of...

    Fort worth steer show

Top end at Ft Worth would be "comparable" to the top end at KC or Denver.  Not trying to start a territorial battle here, just a general statement.  You could plug pretty much any class winners from KC into the Ft Worth show and they would be in contention to make the sale in Ft Worth. Sure it...

    Fort worth steer show

I didn't realize they had made a change. I have never been to the show down there.  Always wanted to go, but usually find a reason not to.  I have friends down there and they talk about how overcrowded it is in the barns.  People can say what they want about the facility, it is hard to have...

    Feeding advice needed

I agree with X-Bar, the steer is about fat. I would cool his ration down, and find something that he will eat.  My steer, that something would be Precon.  I have very seldom seen one that doesn't love that stuff.  75% Precon, 25% show feed mix. He will likely put on another 75 pounds or so...

    2020 Denver Bulls

Where can I find Wade's bulls that he is taking?  Website doesn't show anything.

Dumb question....I apologize ahead of time...

Fatter is pretty easy to follow.  It likely has something to do with how a steer feels to the touch or some variation of that concept. Softness is a little tougher to define.  It is a lot of different factors that come together.  The first thing that comes to mind is middle or belly capacity. ...

    steer hair help

The only product I would be putting on steers this time of year is oil.  No Show Coat.  No Green Stuff.  No nothing other than a very very light oil.  After you wash or rinse you can put a little sheen on, but all you should be doing this time of year is keeping the hair hydrated and oil...

    no rib

Here I Am steers can be a little weiner bellied. He will get some middle as he gets fat. Give him hay...free choice...all he wants.

    My 2020 show steer!

Fat Steer DELUXE! Nice steer.  Be sure your hoof trimmer keeps him back on his heels and doesn't try to stand him up on his toes. Very nice steer.  Good luck!

Ryan Went Complete Cow Herd Dispersal

Ryan is getting close to retirement age. His son Judd is really big in the Show Goat business.  I believe last year the show goats they sold accounted for somewhere in the neighborhood of 75 Champion banners ranging from prospect shows all the way up to State Fairs and Majors.    I have been...
