Clubby bulls for Plain old commercial cows

Ya, honestly I had hoped you would come to that conclusion.  He isn't the right bull. Here I Am is no doubt the bull I would choose.  He will stouten them up, and throw big time hair.

Goretska Show Steers first Texas Sale

I would certainly think he would still have a sale in Iowa. Over the years, there have been other Club Calf operations to operate in the north as well as Texas.  One thing that I have been noticing is that the Fort Worth steers really aren't that much different in age than the northern State...

Clubby bulls for Plain old commercial cows

I-80 is certainly a great bull...but not much power there.  He is a first calf heifer safe type of bull, so don't be surprised if they don't have much to them.

    Fort Worth Steer Show

Is this THE world famous Michael Lobato??

    Fort Worth Steer Show

I heard (I wasn't there nor have I ever been that) from a good friend that had steers there that there were something like 2,500 ENTRIES of which only about 2/3 showed up.  The conversation revolved around people over entering to get more stall space...but again, I don't know. He told me that...

Goretska Show Steers first Texas Sale

Ya know, Tracy is just a polite person.  He will generally take a second for a few words, even when he is busy at a show.  I enjoy watching him clip.  The dexterity that guy has is incredible.

Goretska Show Steers first Texas Sale

I recently saw a sale come up on Steerbidder for Goretska Show Steers based in Abilene TX.  I had heard a year or so ago that Tracy was considering running a Texas operation but am not certain if that is in addition to the Iowa location...

    Half chute vs. full chute

Honestly, we pretty much just quit using chutes all together.  I know that they are necessary sometimes, especially when they are little and just learning how to be a show steer. Once they have been to a few shows, we found it so much easier to just fit them in the stall.  The stall type of...

    Monopoly Money/ I-80 steer

I agree with Larissa, you are doing a nice job with him. Give him all the hay he will eat, and as Larissa said, when he gets fat he will get more belly. Keep up the good work.

    Jackpot shows

If you bought your show calves from someone in your area......try to tag along with them! We learned a lot by going along with the people that we bought our cattle from.  Often times they have as many as 10 families at any given Jackpot show.  They may tell you to bring nothing, and you can...

Where have all the readers/posters gone?

. Yep......pretty much how they all go!

Who are the best market steer judges on the show circuit these days?

There are so many good judges out there right now. Callis, Dave Allen, and Mark Core (Denver 2019) are all excellent. Rash does a good job and is entertaining although I follow him closer on the heifers than steers. Duello does a great job. Kevin Jensen is rock solid. The list goes on and...

    Ringworm Around Heifers Eye

I had actually stumbled upon the Fulvison cure the year prior to being done showing.  I was prepared to use it...and then our last year we never got any ringworm.  Go figure. My question is if you ever used it as a preventative or simply treated with it once you say the early signs of ringworm...

Need fill on top line behind shoulder-best advice?

Being a little weak behind the shoulders is actually not the worst thing in the world...depending upon how far along the steer is. When we bought our show steers (500# range), I always wanted one that was a little bit like that.  It was a sign that they would typically stay loose in their spine...

Where have all the readers/posters gone?

Ya know what SEA, I tried really hard to stay politically correct as I weighed in on this thread.  This is really a great thread in which we can all hopefully learn something about ourselves and those that have disappeared over the months or years. Here is the blatantly honest truth...for ME...

    Here I am

Good point.  Everyone wondered if there would ever be another Heatwave too. It all comes down to numbers in my opinion, and the numbers are growing on this one!

Where have all the readers/posters gone?

Ya know, I have thought a great deal about this thread over the past few days.  I really tried to figure out why I personally don't check in much anymore. I came to the conclusion that I don't check in because my kids are done (barring me tripping over a cheap and REALLY good steer that can...

    Here I am

That bull is the new Monopoly.  A great deal of the success of ANY bull revolves around the number of cows bred to him.  It is just a numbers game. I know a lot of producers that are using Here I Am almost exclusively.  At first (maybe 9 months ago), I kind of snickered to myself and thought...

NWSS Display Bull Reports and Thoughts

Everyone that I personally know that went to Denver last weekend is still there. The only bulls that I heard much about were the High Maine baldy that Duello sold, and Wade Rodgers' bull called Wynne In Doubt.  Both bulls were said to be really good. I didn't even see much coverage within...

Where have all the readers/posters gone?

This is pretty solid information.  This post mirrors some of the things that I posted, but you said it better. Clint
