    How to calm show steer?

Just squirt it in their mouth.  Be sure to get it all over your hands so that you get to smell that nasty stuff for the rest of the day!!  Seriously, don't need to mix it with anything.

    How to calm show steer?

Thiamine Straight Thiamine given orally.  Heavy dose.  It smells horrible, but it will settle one down in a hurry. Thiamine is what is in a lot of the calming pastes that are sold.

Feeding a slick steer VS feeding a steer for hair show

Not being rude or ignoring someone needing help.  I don't know the first thing about feeding a slick steer.  We are all about the fitting, and won't even go to a blow and go show.  Sorry I can't be of any help.

    American Royal Steer Show

Tim Burke bred that steer, and saw him a couple days before he left for Kansas City.  He told me that steer was far and away the best steer he has ever had anything to do with. I asked about the steers his kids showed (Reserve at KC, Champion at Louisville, Denver Divisions, Champion at...

    American Royal Steer Show

Why...because as far as I can recall, that steer would be the first I-80 to ever win a Major. I could be wrong, but don't recall an I-80 ever winning at this level.

    American Royal Steer Show

I just saw an "Updated Breeder and Sire" post on Matt Lautner Cattle. Champion Steer and the American Royal Raised by Jared and Jeff Sedlacek of Tripp South Dakota Sired by I-80 or I-80 Son. Interesting...

    American Royal Steer Show

I won't even pretend on this Gargan, I went back to the stall as soon as I saw him park that steer in the 3 hole...so I didn't listen to him talk that class.  There were steers there with more power from behind than the Line steer, but as far as balance between pretty and powerful...he was the...

    American Royal Steer Show

Our black steer was in Class 5. Luke Doris raised the Reserve Champion, I am not sure who raised the Champion Grady steer. Champion steer was pretty darn good.  I am not saying that he would have been my choice, but I can certainly see how someone could have liked that one pretty well...

    Speakers/radios at shows

Just had this issue at the American Royal this weekend.  The aisle over from us was so loud that we couldn't talk to someone on the other side of the blocking chute.  Guy stalled next to us yelled over and said "Turn It Down"...to which they replied "What??".  He grabbed their cord and yelled...

    American Royal Steer Show

Yes, we took the red steer and a black steer as well. Red steer stood 4th in Class 3, which is really good considering he is being fed for Denver. Black steer was 7th, and I was disappointed in that one. Facility was actually good.  Plenty of electricity.  Basically, the only thing that the...

    American Royal Steer Show

We are taking a couple steers to the American Royal this week. We have never been to this show. Any pointers or tips anyone can offer would be appreciated.  I want to know about that facility, not the beat down that we are likely going to take in the actual steer show!  We know that we are...

    Supplements that you swear by?

We don't buy a lot of the supplements, but rather buy the ingredients that go into those supplements.  However, I am a believer in Fresh & Feminine.  There is something in there that just seems to work.  We can get a steer fat to .4 or .5 of cover...and no heavy brisket to go with it. We have...

    Speakers/radios at shows

My comments were not directed to you, and I sincerely apologize for not specifying that.  I was thinking back at our State Fair over the years. Again, please don't feel as if I was directing any negative comments your way.  I certainly have no problem with background music at a show.

    Speakers/radios at shows

I agree with this 100%.  Ever notice that most of the time the people with the obnoxiously loud and inappropriate music usually have really bad cattle?  If I was showing cattle that bad I wouldn't be doing anything to draw attention to myself or my cattle.

    How to soften heifer up?

Great advice.  We feed Precon (steers not heifers) from the day the come home until the day they go to their terminal show.  The lowest percentage we go to is about 35% of their total feed intake, and generally end them at about 75% of their feed intake once they are almost fat.  I have...

Best Stops to look at Sale Calves in KS, NE, SD?

Ryan Dunklau, Pat Wiese, Tim Burke, Nate Kolterman, and Cory Miller for Nebraska. They have some clubby stuff, but a lot of high percentage stuff as well.  For what it is worth, most of these guys are within an hour of each other.  Some are only minutes apart.

Is Calf Climate a real business?

I never had a problem with them, but this was probably 5 years ago.

Best Stops to look at Sale Calves in KS, NE, SD?

Wow, there are probably 50 places that you could stop. Is there anything specific about what you are looking for? Breed? Registered? Breeding or Market? Certain genetics? Age? Price Range? Give a little more information and maybe I can help you.

    Grand Drive line-ups

Excellent observation, and I couldn't agree more.  Everyone knew who was going to win the Indiana State Fair as soon as the Cross Bred champion was picked. I think that the other thing this does is gets the best cattle into the top 5 or 7 or however many the given show picks.  Often times when...
