    Myostatin gene

It's interesting to see how the different players have reacted to the issue. http://www.canadianshorthorn.com/assets/myostatin_2017.pdf https://shorthornbeef.com.au/myostatin-e226x/ https://www.beefshorthorn.org/beef-shorthorn-news/2018/11/13/double-muscling-myostatin-and-the-beef-shorthorn...

    Best shorthorn cow families?

I think you could run yourself in circles trying to pick out the best. Some of the current show ring trends are leaving some awfully productive cow families on the back burner as well. The Picture Perfect, Marie, Minnie, Una, Fools, & Playful Cait lines carry built in longevity as well as...

what is th, pha,ds cattle trait?

I'd assume the answer would have to be no it's not proven, but there could be some research out there pinning the actual odds down that I don't know about. I'm sure it was difficult to pin down what was going on when some animals don't display at all and some had to be butchered before 800lbs...

what is th, pha,ds cattle trait?

The first two were very expensive lessons learned by those of us who played the game before the tests were readily available. I'd suggest not even considering using a carrier on a carrier and even avoid mixing a PHA carrier with a DS carrier as well. While a ds calf isn't death, like TH and PHA...

Our senior herd sires for 2019

Is Diamond Belvedere 29B semen available in the states?  Did they ever get the Australian data into digital beef? I ran my yearling Lord Belmore son on some heifers this spring. He's sure looking the part.

    Mature bulls

He's a Bonanza son that appears to be putting some pretty functional daughters in the herd. I've used him to create some half sib x half sib matings to wind up some pedigrees and so far things look to be working well.

    Mature bulls

I try to make it through the Iowa stud barns once or twice a year and am often left wondering if anyone actually looks at these bulls after their promotion pics. While some big names are always down right disappointing, there are always a couple lesser or non promoted bulls who look really good...

    Hydroponic fodder system

There are several systems that are nearly completely automated. Seeding, watering, lights, heat, etc are all part of the self controlled system that dumps it into a tmr mixer cart. I've never known one of these systems to be financially feasible, but I suppose some "grass fed" niche market...

A pretty much all red Shorthorn bull that sired class winners

I'd sure like to see a picture of Hazel Leap 2nd if anyone has one. Is there a story behind why his semen straws are labeled like they are? Pic of an Ultimate Type daughter...

A pretty much all red Shorthorn bull that sired class winners

Collecting the data for use in the system and then attempting to hide it from us has never made sense to me. I feel like I've paid my dues and WHR fees to use the system and should be able to see any animal in the database. Some of the old bulls didn't/don't have the correct owners listed so...

Is he producing semen yet? I know the waiting list was quite large after the sale.

A pretty much all red Shorthorn bull that sired class winners

How about Kane Captain AJ? He's available to all, affordable, Red, and has put a few class winners out there in limited use on big time show lines. Pedigree is not high bw or the typical main stream Trump line breeding.

A pretty much all red Shorthorn bull that sired class winners

Red Knight, Red Reward, Red Stallion, Red Blood, Red Demand, Payday, and Hot Commodity come to mind as current bulls. Availability and the cows they got used on surely affected their individual success/use ratio.

Looking for pipettes to AI from ampules

If you order some new semen straws, you can use a needle and syringe to pull the semen into them and then breed as usual. I want to say it requires a 12ga to fit the straw right, but would have to check to be sure. Local vet claims you can use the 1/4 straws and a smaller needle to spread the...

    Concealed / Open Firearms Carry

I rarely carry anymore, but when I do it's always concealed. The last thing I want is to be a known threat if something should ever happen. Being the unknown threat significantly shifts the odds in my favor. Missouri no longer requires a permit to carry concealed. If you can own the gun, I...

    Red Dirt Treasure sale

See if this works... https://aegertermarketing.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/03/RDTCatalog.pdf They have invested heavily in some of these genetics, so I hope the sale goes well. There's also a few pretty nice AF cows in it that have produced some calves that sold quite well the last few years.

I had forgot about Blue Moon. I'm not seeing much else out there for calving ease half bloods.

Blue roan or white shorthorn calving ease?

I'm looking for a half blood blue roan or a white shorthorn calving ease bull to use on heifers. Calving ease first and clean fronted second. Would help if there was some milk in the lines. Is there anything new out there that's worth trying?

    Electronic Heat Detection Systems

Mix water with the right kind of clay and it sticks to the sides of their ankles and will out mark just about anything. If you can force them to walk through or stand in two different mud holes for just a little while it's even better. One at the waterer and one at the mineral station generally...
