    Weaning

I've heard 90 days. When I did that one year, it took a while for the 90 day weaned heifer to catch up to the 110 day weaned heifer for what it's worth. She didn't get sick and did get plenty big eventually.

Eionmor Gus 80C vs Eionmor Ultra 8C

IMO 8C doesn't look like a carrier. 85C definitely has the 'look' of 226X, and GAFA Mohican could be the source of it though it isn't as pronounced as 85C. If memory serves, I think someone told me they knew someone who saw Mohican in person and suspected he was Myo at the time.. that's pretty...

Biss element 79 what ever happened

That was a cow that could work here in the US imo. Based on the pics I've seen, I think she's about a frame 5. And the Romance cow family at Nagol Park is one of their best.

Biss element 79 what ever happened

His progeny had a lot of success down in Australia, though I personally haven't seen many in the US. Seems like another case of a bull who worked really well down there, but not so much up here. I could appreciate the bone and mass on the AussieXElement cattle, but in general I think they were a...

    Cosmo-calf at UC Davis

All fetuses start out as female. The Y chromosome causes a chain reaction that adds male characteristics in utero. They inserted a gene, SRY, onto a different chromosome which will also kickstart that chain reaction. It will be transferred to 50% of the calves, independent of whether they are...

Fly control in barn - help!

You'll never get rid of all of them, but the key is to set traps/bait/etc. before fly season takes off in the spring. Once they start to peak in the summer, it's impossible to get ahead without help from mother nature.

    Saskvalley stampede

The EPDs have value, but it's going to take time and data to get there. What I was referring to is when people try saying a bull is great solely based off his EPDs.

    Saskvalley stampede

I spoke with the EPD developers at IGS a few years ago, and they told me they consider 85-90% accuracy to be "low accuracy", and they wouldn't put much stock in the numbers until it reaches about 90-95%. They don't consider a bull "proven" until it's >95%. I think we could all agree that Trump...

    Saskvalley stampede

Looking in Digitalbeef, the 14 progeny with data submitted  averaged a 95 ratio in both REA and IMF. That would tank the $F index pretty quick.

    Thoughts on these Alamo calves?

Nice calves! If I didn't have a pile of embryos out of an Alamo granddaughter that I was planning on building my herd with, I'd probably be planning a trip down there this year to look for a herd sire  <beer>

    Overdue Solution heifer

I've visited a number of long-time cattle breeders and a common theme I picked up from them is you can tell more about a bull's potential when he's a newborn than when he's a yearling.

    Overdue Solution heifer

The cows went back to 9590 and I had it happen with a first calf heifer bred to 135 where we ended up having to cut the calf out and it took 2 of us to lift him--didn't own a scale at the time but he was bigger than the 2 other calves we had that the weight tape said were 110-120lbs. Cow sides...

    Overdue Solution heifer

+1 on this. I used to have a pair of Creole cows who consistently went 2-3 weeks past their due dates and the calves were never under 100lbs. We had a crazy number of C Sections and prolapses with those genetics.. make sure she's induced to calve during regular veterinary hours because I'd be...

    Denver Stock Show 2021?

I thought they were working with Grand Island to do it in Nebraska on the same dates it was previously scheduled?

Is there any breed whos main attribute is it's junior heifer projects.

I don't know that Chianina really exist outside of the show ring and Jr. programs.

Prayers for all those who were in the wake or aftermath of storms-Iowa Nebr Ill

Why?? You want to take 2020 for another round?? Personally I'd like to wrap it up, put a nice little bow on it, then toss it out with the bathwater.  (lol) But in all seriousness, I'm sorry to hear about all the devastation down there

    Looking for advice/tips....

Sounds like all the issues have centered around the show stick. Maybe focus on getting him more comfortable and stopping the "escapes" and let the show stick action go on the back burner for a bit?
