    This kids...is a show steer.

Why was it steered instead of made into a stud for Denver? 🤔

    Heifer broke front leg

Agree with above. If she seems healthy, the beef should be fine. If it's a bit Crooked or she's a bit wobbly on it then I wouldn't plan on taking her to full finish weight. Tender "veal" isn't a bad option to have in the freezer.

    2020 Denver Bulls

You are welcome to contribute some value rather than just complaining about the discussion of shorthorn bulls which were in Denver. I forgot about Mark's Times Square question from earlier, but I did see him--i just wasn't able to post when I initially saw the question, so here's my brief...

    Dairy Feeders

Are you asking about showing the dairy calves or the dairy fats? In my experience, winning the dairy feeder calf class is kind of like drawing straws. As long as your calf is sound and doesn't look too feminine you've got a good shot at winning. Put them on a high protein feed mix as soon as...

    2020 Denver Bulls

I am far from an expert on the clubby deal, but for what it's worth Chosen 1 was the only little black clubby bull who stood out to me. I also liked Follow Me, until I got to his feet. The pasterns looked a bit soft so I started to look closer and then the guy standing there jumped up and kicked...

    Breed Question

I've been breeding shorthorns since 2012, and the first 7 years were expensive with a lot of harsh lessons. That being said, I hit the "reset" button this past year and decided to stick with the breed because I believe there are some excellent genetics out there that will compete with any breed...

    Breed Question

Agreed. I use white bulls on my solid cows if I can find a good one.

    2020 Denver Bulls

I like how it says "everyone" will get a chance to use him.. think maybe they're going to list him with an AI company like Select or Cattle Visions instead of limiting availability to 10 or 20 units at each sale?? That would be a nice change of pace in the breed.

    2020 Denver Bulls

I agree--the Stockman grandson, Rawhide 9001, really caught my eye. I'm not sure which bulls JSF is taking down, but I found a couple bulls in their sale catalog that I'm hoping will be there. I'm also curious if Leveldale is going. I'd like to see what they put together this year since I never...

    2020 Denver Bulls

Trucks are on their way to Denver.. who are the hot bulls everyone is excited to check out this year? Any breeds/club calf, hill or yards. Also post candid photos when you've got them  ;D

    Less well known Shorthorn herds

This heifer is a pretty cool breeding piece that I'm excited about. She's a Muridale Murango out of a McCoy, and she's super thick yet feminine and sound. Also her disposition is 2nd to none. She's bred to PVF Finding Favor (Leveldale Ringo son). I'm tempted to try a black clubby bull on her to...

    Less well known Shorthorn herds

BSG Cathy, the Bowman's feel she is the best Stampede daughter they've ever raised. Pending how she performs for us up here, we are likely going to put her to work as a donor.

    Less well known Shorthorn herds

Well, I've finally got all the new cattle I was looking for this year! I've had a couple people ask that I update this post with what I found, so here's the summary: 4 KCSF Red Mercury heifers from Crooked Post bred to DRS Super Mario. 1 Saskvalley Curfew heifer from Crooked Post bred to DRS...

    stupid question

You answered your own question right here. Use them more and focus on learning how the blade sits in your hand and on the animal. Just go slow and focus more on learning how the clipper works than the end product for now. Practice. Practice. Practice. It's that simple. Oh, and patience.

Opinions on the 5-day CO-Synch + CIDR program

This could very well work.. worst case you're out 1 unit of semen and the cost of the Technician but you saved the cost of a CIDR/shots

Opinions on the 5-day CO-Synch + CIDR program

You're going to need more then 48 hours between the Lut and CIDR. Someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but here's the general idea behind how the products work: the female develops a CL every 3 weeks. It goes through its growth cycle, and when she isn't pregnant she goes through Estrus ~3 days...

    Hot Commodity & Evolution

The EPD algorithm is based around numerous assumptions. One such assumption, coming from one of the individuals responsible for maintaining the algorithm themselves, is that breeds improve over time--which we can all agree is debatable. An EPD is simply a comparative tool, and the values only...
