    Red Dirt Treasure sale

That's called Agnostic. Why did a thread about a cattle sale need to divert towards religious discussion? If you all want to talk about religion, start a new thread.

    Direct marketing of Shorthorn beef

Not sure how you're producing fat calves with a total input of $500... but it is important to remember that, economically speaking, the calves you feed out have a value when they get put on feed. The opportunity cost is important to keep in mind with these enterprises. You also didn't get all...

    Direct marketing of Shorthorn beef

I sell sample boxes to people who just have a normal fridge/freezer unit, and it seems to go over very well. I include 3 roasts, 6 steaks and 15lb of ground beef in the box. I choose the roasts and steaks to include, so it gives me the flexibility to work around the bigger orders of 1/4 and 1/2...

    Question for Canadians

Thank you for all the replies! Most of our winters here seem to stay subzero for at least a couple months, and I've seen -60F twice in the past 5 years.. The fountain i'm looking to replace is in the pasture with only about 20ish head drinking out of it, and they all seem to drink at the same...

    Question for Canadians

All of our drinking fountains are pretty old and beat up, so I'm wondering what is typically used up in the real cold country for winter watering? I'm in MN so we do tend to get just as cold, but we don't stay at those temps for as long. Any pictures or brand recommendations are very much...

    Birth weight epds and such

I believe shape has a lot more to do with CE than BW does. I haven't had a calf out of a non-first calver weigh under 100lbs since I got started in 2012. I also haven't ever pulled a calf from a 3yr old or older cow, and the weights on the scale always seem to surprised me.. Yet I have lost a...

    Hill Haven Fire Storm 28C

I've seen 3 daughters down here in Australia, and they are all pretty handy. I have a video of one and pictures of all 3, PM me and I can email them to you because i'm tired of adjusting a bunch of pictures to fit the size limits. This particular farm used 5 straws and got 3 heifers, so they are...

UPDATE Homeplace Hot Commod AUG 22-on pge3-4 ADDED SOME Fresh Air

With most males, seasonality isn't much of an issue, cattle in particular. As long as he is in reasonable body condition, he could go straight to collection after being with the cows. It's better to get into it sooner rather than later because his body is still maintaining high concentrations of...

    Spent grain container??

Put them on a platform and make a slide opening in the middle of the bottom. It won't get everything out without a funneled base, but it should get it empty enough to where you can tip it over without breaking anything

Can someone at the Nat Jr Shorthorn show take a cell pic if the bull is there ?

http://www.steerplanet.com/bb/the-big-show/possible-donor-cow/45/ We only had 2 manimal calves, the other was a steer out of a commercial Holstein/Hereford cross. He had really good muscle shape considering his dam always looked more dairy than beef. I've got 2 Big Sky calves this year and I...

    Possible donor cow

My phone pics are apparently too big, so I'm sorry these are going to be 1 per post

    Possible donor cow

Thought I'd give an update on these calves. Again, the white heifer is by HP Manimal 1C, and the roan heifer is a JDMC Big Sky 15X. The white heifer was limit-fed 5lbs grain per day through winter with free choice hay. She's pictured at 16 months next to a 3 yr old Holstein x Studer's Jazz Man...

    Leveldale sale results

That could be 1 theory. Also could be that she just hasn't produced calves with the right "look" for them to market, or they haven't found a sire that really clicks with her, or any number of things. Edit: I spoke to Les, he said she tested negative for everything before the sale, then when...

    Leveldale sale results

Has anyone seen/heard anything about the Rosewood cow that Sullivan's bought? I've been trying to watch their catalogs to see what they'd end up doing with her, but I haven't seen anything.

Would you sell a steer with a white eye (pink eye)?

I believe Lautners sold a blind steer a couple years ago. As long as it doesn't cause the steer to spook easy then it shouldn't be a problem.

    Black shorthorns

Speckled Park cattle and Coota Park Blue-E are pretty much doing this already

    Big Ticket

I have seen some nice Ripper daughters. Easy fleshing, deep sided, and still have decent shape on the hindquarters. Talking to Cody it sounds like they really take off as breds, and his first daughters were looking good last I spoke to him.
