    New Herdsire

I am 63 years old and have had cows since I was 9. the thing is I haven't figured anything out yet. It seems like to me that the epds are geared mostly for the packers and the feeders. I sell feeder calves. The most important numbers for me are $W and $EN within the Angus sire Summaries. An...

    Weaning

90 days is my minimum age also and I have weaned several at that age through the years. If they are eating some feed ahead of that you won't notice much of delay in those calves. Competition from bigger calves will be as hard on them as anything else so fit you have a separate pen to sort a few...

    Melatonin pills question?

It's been well over 20 years since we used melatonin and we trying to take the edge off of a couple of calves. You'll have to research what levels are necessary to help with hair growth. Good luck  :)

    Melatonin pills question?

To give you a correct answer a person would need to know the concentration of the melatonin pills to be used.

    adding rib shape?

I agree with using feed stuff products. It puts you more in control of your ration IMO. Depending on where you are located will somewhat determine what you have available to you. I use the basic AAOK ration to start out with and then tweak it for my own goals. I usually feed both CSH & Beet...

    Best bull stud to visit

Both of those collection centers are impressive and top notch. I usually go through them each a few times a year. Traditionally after Denver up until turn out time in the spring are the best times to see the most bulls. Vogler's at Ashland, NE. is good and I have heard that the Mitchell, SD...

    Overdue Solution heifer

I would have also induced her but I will say that her birth was more than likely when she would have calved without the induction. Most induced cattle will calve 48 to 72 hours after being induced.

In your opinion, who is the best show calf producer?

Remember there is a huge difference between a producer and a trader depending on what you want to do and what your budget is if you want/need someone to sort through the calves that are out there being raised by many producers go to a trader / dealer. If you have an eye or know someone that you...

Pones too big but middle not filled out

I don't really have any advice for you feed wise but I think your friend was meaning the fat pones that appear around the tail head when a beef is possibly getting too fat. It is a good indication of when one is finished. Once a young beef puts on that kind of cover it is tricky to get it off...

Is fitter 52 ok to feed to bred heifer?

This is JMO but I wouldn't hesitate to feed it just because of high protein content. You could counter that by feeding some feedstuff with lower protein content and higher fiber if it bothers you.
