CABANA -PLEASE TELL ME WHAT THESE CATTLE ARE-SHORTHORNS HERE NEED THESE GENETICS

Agree 100%. We do very little with fitting tails and everyone ends up happier. I've never been beat because we didn't use a whole can of glue on a switch.

    Changing gears and changing direction

Good luck Grant. Hope you and Chris are back to feeling your best soon with a little less stress on your plate. I'm a young guy but was born with many health issues and had two heart surgeries before I was 18, so I can feel for you there. Your sale may be as good a reason to come to Canada the...

    Cow treats

You've seen a gentle cow come running for a feed bucket being shaken, right? They usually go for the bucket when they play. A cow that has been fed out of your hand is going to go for you. At least that's the logic behind it being dangerous.

    Fans for calves question

That's kind of what I was getting at. Our customers in California get along great with misters and port a cools. Our customers in the Midwest and deep south do not.

    Fans for calves question

We use a lot of both Sullivan Barn Fans and Schaefer deep basket fans. Found a deal on QC supply a few years back for great 24 inch fans with deep baskets for like 160 bucks. Bought 10 of them and 7 or 8 are still around going strong. The motors never went out of the others, their cages just...

    Fans for calves question

Lots of odd information here. Misters and swamp coolers do not work well in areas that already have high humidity. We do not run either, just lots of fans and rinsing and I would say our barn is as comfortable as any I have been in barring actual cooler rooms. I would never suggest leaving...

    HELP! Weird situation!

Put a rope halter on over the cable halter and give that a shot. Always end your sessions on a good note.

    CF Primo angus bull birthweights

We've had everything from 60 to 90, but theyve been all unassisted and very well shaped.

    Fireball Whiskey calves?

Josh Blackford does and they're really nice. I usually don't like MAB cattle but he's a pretty dang nice bull.

    Hot Commodity or Saskvalley Yesterday

For us he isn't so much a cow changer. If you have a good heifer or cow, the calf will be good and likely better than its mother. He adds bone and muscle for us on a pretty consistent basis. Structure has been fantastic. Not always the most hairy calves, but what hair they have is nice.  First...

Hereford heifer what u think ?

    Hot Commodity or Saskvalley Yesterday

We just sold a Hot Commodity out of a first calf heifer for big money off the farm this spring. Best calf we've ever had.

    Dover/Coalpit/Orion

Do you have much experience with Dover bulls?  The females I've been around are really good cows but almost have a dual purpose look to them. Very distinctive, you can pick a Dover daughter or granddaughter out of a lineup.

    I-80 Gestations

Most of ours go within 3 or 4 days of their due date on either side. Never have had a huge one by him, but consult with your vet on possibly inducing them.

    Breeders world online sale

I've been on both the buying and selling sides of this many times. When selling, I have never been able to see the max bids. We have never intentionally tried to run a heifer, but I have bid as an agent for a person that couldn't watch the sale but wanted updates during. I'm sure that bidding...

    Newbie Looking to get started

Agree with Martindell,  and would add SharBen for legit good Kentucky cattle at reasonable prices. Parnells are from Alabama I believe and they're making some really nice ones right now.

    Newbie Looking to get started

Not flooded with good Shorthorns at all.  Average clubby bred Shorthorns are easy to sell but they're almost completely useless as cows or showing females at a level above county fairs. We have the best luck selling breeding type Shorthorns, but it's not for everyone and it can be...

Our upcoming last year UPDATED PICS July 12, 2017

If it's a maturity issue, you'll be alright. He'll get fat and you just have to not be afraid to clip his top hard and leave a little hair up high on his neck. I'm sure you don't need steer advice from a Shorthorn heifer guy though haha. As far as NWSS being tougher this year, quite a few guy...

Our upcoming last year UPDATED PICS July 12, 2017

Looks great. If he gets big enough, he's gonna be tough. NWSS might be a bit harder this year, but I think that's when he's gonna hit is stride big time.

Opinions on our commercial Heinz 57 heifer

A 60lb calf may have a hard time being very strong and lively. You also won't be adding any bone using a bull that small. I'd suggest Brilliance. Easy calving, good growth, very nice patterned cattle.
