    IGS

International Genetic Solutions. I attended a meeting this past Monday evening and a speaker talked about this program regarding DNA testing of the cow herds. Google it. There maybe some great availability to genetically evaluate your cow herd via DNA and be able to rank your cows from top to...

    Bull Reviews

I will have to say that I had to take notice that 5 out of the 10 top steers at the Ohio Beef Expo were sired by Here I Am, 4 out of Monopoly, & 1 Driven 80 last weekend. Angus and SM sire a large % of the heifer Champions.

Stayability and milk. Has there been any studies?

Milking ability is not very heritable in general. Herefords are great in some of the countries fringe areas because they don't as a rule milk too heavily and can survive, breed back, and bring in a calf. Speaking of Herefords, have many of you looked through Copeland's bull sale catalog? Looks...

Castrating a 12 month old bull calf for beef

It's done regularly. Another option would be to leave him a bull and try to get him finished as fast as possible. I have a neighbor that sells intact bulls all of the time to regular customers. The trick is to get them there with some finish and that they be young like 14 months old B4 they get...

    Anyone have experience inducing labor?

I've induced some over the years and have always gotten along well. I know of some friends that routinely induced their cows and heifers to try to calve over the weekends because they were not able to be around as much as they would like during the week days because of work. They loved it. The...

    Anyone have experience inducing labor?

There are plenty of people on here that do, but it would be best to call your preferred vet honestly.

    Bull Percentage

Just wanted to add that if you want to change a fraction to a percentage you just need to divide the numerator by the denominator. Example 3/8s blood would be 3 divided by 8 or 37.5%.

    Pregnant cow question

This is an interesting dilemma. It would seem to be impossible but maybe she has an open tear between the two and therefore it may be possible but she would need to be examined to be sure. Anyone else have any ideas?

    Bull Percentage

Percentage of which breeds or breeds? To figure the percentages out you just need to add whatever breed that you are wanting to know then divide that number by two. Example, 3/8s plus 1/4= 5/8s. 5/8divided by 2 = 5/16s. 3/8 +2/8=5/8. 5/8=10/16 to be able to divide it by 2=5/16s. If you give us...

More than likely just bumped or boosted by another cow. You could send in the fetus but in my own experience you don't usually find much out.

Has anyone tried MCF's SM bull Big Deal? I saw some pics of some good looking heifers in their heifer sale catalog last Nov.

    Best show calf feed?

This feed is fantastic there is no arguing that but the only problem is that you are right back to what they were trying to get away from, expensive feed cost. What do those feeds cost per ton?

    Best show calf feed?

I agree with Doc. Very good ration. Tweak if you like which I think most people would tweak it some to use the readily available feed ingredients in your own area. The last time that I figured out the cost of my own version of AAOK's ration it was costing me $196.20 per ton.
