    Feeding Syrup

I was just curious, I realize that some of the plants, you can't get it from.  I also realize that you need to find a way to find a way to keep it from freezing; in that I mean because it is so thick.  But at around $48 a ton, I was just curious about it.  I hear it doesn't go bad either, but I...

careful pricing your low end show steers

boat I'm in right now: unless they inherit everything-- they can't do it.. I'd get my inheritance.. but my career has taken me 250 miles away-- where I have to start from scratch... not working so well...  Can't find pasture- can't make enough to buy cattle- can't take out too many loans. I...

careful pricing your low end show steers

[What you said, agrees with me 100%.  I'd take 20,000 trucks, $1000 farm ground, $2. corn, $1.90 fuel- and .70 cattle... any day of the week over what we have currently. I'm not saying we're getting over paid-- I'm saying we're getting under paid in relation to the cost of inputs as compared...

    Feeding Syrup

Has anyone feed syrup to their cattle?  I had a guy who just starting feeding this to his cows, and they are in great shape.  He feeds ground CRP hay and then this syrup and it was the cost that intrigued me and the fact that his cows are in great shape for it being towards the end of winter. ...

Need help or suggestions or anything someone can give me

That all makes sense, I have a feed bunk in there that the bulls like to push all over the place.  I wish I would have thought of putting two and two together.  :) And yes the weather here in NE has been so much warmer this year.  It's usually hard to find a time to wash cattle in the winter and...

Need help or suggestions or anything someone can give me

The spots they are missing hair are pretty good size right behind their front legs, and unfortunately they are black haired cattle. We had lots of hair on them too.  I just didn't think it looked like lice, but figured pouring them would help regardless.  I have learned so much on here from...

Need help or suggestions or anything someone can give me

I have 2 bulls that are going to a show/sale next week, they have been fine until now.  Last week I noticed they were missing some patches of hair, mostly behind their front legs.  My first instinct was to pour them so I did.  I can't tell if they maybe were licking those spots, or what, but...

If my cattle will stand then I don't even bother putting them in a chute, I would almost rather just fit them in the stall....less hassle at times depending on the show.  The only problem is shavings sticking to the hair.  I have seen people roll out a small piece of indoor/outdoor carpet under...

    ET School

I went to that school back in 2004 and I learned a lot, and yes I had years of A.I experience so it helped.  I liked the fact that, the school in MS is longer than just 3 days like Ag Tech.  I have known people who went to the Ag Tech one and they enjoyed it.  I will say that the School in MS...

Thinking aobut Using Purina Power Fuel Top Dressing. Good or Bad Idea?

I have used both the Power Fuel and Fitters Edge before, the power fuel did put the weight on our heifers that we needed, but had to take them off so they weren't too fat.  Just as you said a close eye on her, and with just one heifer the cost won't be so terrible.  I switched from the power...

    question about Oxy-Explosion

I have fed Oxy-Explosion to heifers, calves, bulls, and our mini horse that we show.  I have never had any issues with it, I just never want to fork over the money for it right away.  I raised my best bull on sure champ, animax, and our show ration.  I can tell you that I know of people who use...

    Going rate for AI work

I usually charge $20, if there is more than one to breed I will cut them a deal.  When I synchronize a larger group for people and they buy the semen from me, then I will AI for about $8 a head.

    best recipient cows for embryos

I usually use cows from my own herd and I always make sure I put embryos in cow that I KNOW can get bred, I usually use Gelbvieh, and Balancers also, plus I have Angus so I also use those.  I have had good luck with them taking embryos and I put in my own embryos, so if I ever question a CL then...

    Calves with ring worm

As strange as it sounds monistat cream works great, I just get the off brand of it.  I have even used it on dogs and cats.  Then once it is gone if you put on MTG it will grow the hair back a little quicker and you will be good to go.  I have also used spray paint and it works too.  Good luck!

    embryo transfer

I don't mind putting embryos in, yes it's a little more complicated than when a person AI's, but I have had good luck doing it and I'm happy with my success rate.  I took the class at the National Embryo School back in 2004 and I've doing that since. I will say I am not fond of all the...

    New to this cow stuff

I have a lot of years dealing with bottle calves, and they make an intense feeding milk replacer which is a good way to get the calf going in the first 60 days, it's by Land O Lakes.  My suggestion would be to give the calf a starter feed with molasses and just leave it in front of the calf free...
