2300 lb Angus Str (pics)

I bought this steer for the packers this week he is a 5 year old pure Angus of no use, to heavy and to old, but interesting. The hereford cow weighs 1320lbs

A 2200 lb steer brought over 3000 at the sale barn the other day.

I paid cow price for him $1.50 a kg live and with his yield he was a good buy. I buy for the packer I did not buy him for myself.  A steer weighting 1500 lwt would bring $1.75/kg and one weighting 1200 lwt  $1.80/kg to $2.00/kg (2.2lb to the kg)

so you paid 3450 for him-- and the packer made 2187.  NOT very profitable for them... I think I'd be looking for a new buyer. <rock>

You need to sharpen your pencil. Aussie paid $1568.18 for the steer not $3450.
2300 lbs. divided by 2.2 lbs to the kg equals 1045.4545 kg.
1045.4545 kg. x $1.50 = $1568.18

1215 # steer divided by 2.2 conversion factor- yields a 552.2727 kg animal..  times 1.80 a lb  (as stated for a 1200 lb) equals $994.09 dollars...

STILL A LOSS OF PROFIT

Not really sure how anyone is figuring profit or loss? Unless I am missing something no where in the thread does it show the cutout value of the steer,  the $1.80 was a live price (lwt).  If we don't know what the packer sold the product for how can we know if they made a profit or a loss?

Jody 1215 is a hot carcase weight. I don't know how packers (Slaughter houses) work over there but here they take live animals and turn them in carcases.
In kgs and in carcase wt price 552kg x $2.93 = $1617
  Price I could of spent                552kg x $3.00= $1656    Under our grid price by $39

makes sense to me now.. of which I was guessing and wondering how and why that steer went from 2300 to 1200 lbs. 

How does the carcass price of a grade a maturity compare to dark cutters and canners?  of which I'm sure this guy yielded.
