I paid cow price for him $1.50 a kg live and with his yield he was a good buy. I buy for the packer I did not buy him for myself. A steer weighting 1500 lwt would bring $1.75/kg and one weighting 1200 lwt $1.80/kg to $2.00/kg (2.2lb to the kg)firesweepranch said:So I gotta ask, why did you buy him and how much did you have to pay for him??? so you paid 3450 for him-- and the packer made 2187. NOT very profitable for them... I think I'd be looking for a new buyer. <rock>

You need to sharpen your pencil. Aussie paid $1568.18 for the steer not $3450.
2300 lbs. divided by 2.2 lbs to the kg equals 1045.4545 kg.
1045.4545 kg. x $1.50 = $1568.18

Aussie said:Jody 1215 is a hot carcase weight. I don't know how packers (Slaughter houses) work over there but here they take live animals and turn them in carcases.
In kgs and in carcase wt price 552kg x $2.93 = $1617
Price I could of spent 552kg x $3.00= $1656 Under our grid price by $39
