I read an article that said that every single animal has at least one genetic defect. However the Angus bull 6807 has been linebred......inbred and everthing else and doesn't seem to show a defect. To me is very impressive. Surely there is something defective with him. You had the line 1 Herfords that were linebred. Were there any defects. If you were take a Herford or Shorthorn or whatever breed..........random individual and line bred them........in bred them.........what percent of these tests come back genetic defect free? According to the one article.....none of them would. Is this a truth or false hood? I'm a little confused here.

Potential defects

Slight foot defect with dew claw or something, can't remember

There's no doubt owner knew all about test breeding as it was done on some numbers of individuals for years.

I may have discovered a new defect in my herd. Linebreeding. 7 year project down the draino. I think its a shorthorn or maine deal.

This is why line feeding can be so successful.

This is the exact corner that makes it successful. It's much better to find it in a herd before it leaches out.

Calves are wobbly. Hard to walk. Kinda nervous twiches. I think kinda like ms. At first I thought calves were laid on and kinda paralyzed. I don't know three calves in three years.

Might be some kinda poison in pasture or something but its a brother mated back on a brothers daughter deal. Seems like it may go back through *x4145750 cow. Still sorting stuff out.

I put up some video on U-tube. Search defect calf or Craig Hoyt.
That calf acts like calves that are getting really sick from scours that need to go on electrolytes(I'm not saying it's scours just the same movement) Could it be a mineral deficiency like selenium. I would definitely consult a vet to see if there is an underlying cause, maybe it's something treatable not a defect.

I have never personally seen it,  but this is suggestive of swayback in sheep which is related to low intake of copper or excessive intake of molybdenum by the dam.  It cannot be treated but a liver biopsy will sometimes be diagnostic.  Since both sire and dam are 50:50,  I would place genetics lower on my scale of differentials.
