I'm in Indiana & am ag teacher & FFA advisor.  Since tomorrow is only day 6 back at school, it may take a while to get back to check this board.

I'm a certified ag teacher, but it's been 15+ years since I've been in the classroom. Still, I try to keep up with what's going on, and I have lots of friends that are currently teaching, so I've got plenty of resources. If you think I might be able to help you, pm me.

This may frighten a few, but yes, I have been hired as an Ag teacher and a FFA instructor.
I will be "in charge" of "my classroom" second semester. This semester I am taking teaching classes to get certified as a teacher.
So, hopefully you can teach an old dog new tricks!!

Not a horse trainer, although I do have a "pasture pony" a horse I acquired in 85.

And I have found that if you combine hats it helps!!!

Thanks Justme.

You will be a better teacher because you have experience with livestock.  Although the emphasis in agricultural education tends to be more on science than production, the applied science appeals to many students.  Have a good time--the kids are just so much fun!  National FFA has over 500,000 members.  If you have not been to National FFA Convention lately, it is very inspiring to see 50,000 clean-cut kids in blue jackets.

Those kids are going to be so fortunate to have a teacher that is an "expert" on everything!!!  Maybe you can teach organic chemistry and quantum physics too when you're not teaching ag classes.....

I was 48 when I began teaching ag ed & became fully licensed in 2002.  Your taking teaching courses now will bring you up to speed with technology in the classroom and the latest methods of instruction.  You are competing with video games, Internet, ipods, etc.  Keeping students entertained is not an easy task.  Attention spans are short.  Teaching can be very rewarding and is some of the hardest work you will ever do.

Not nice dusty - personal attacks are so uncharacteristic of you - did the possum bite you? ???

Show Heifer - congrats - with your education, livestock background, experience with kids, work ethic and ethics I think you will do a grand job (clapping)

Show Hef, good luck & congrats!
I'm with Red. You have chosen a noble profession. Try to challenge the students, without going over their heads. Go too far, and, you'll have the Board, Administration, Coaches & Parents all in a tizzy. Some people here seem to think "Agri" ( We don't call it "Ag" down here-- I do, but not local Vocabulary) is an "easy A", not a core subject with appropriate levels of "Academic Challenge"--Including all the Science that has been incorporated into the Curricula in the past dozen years.

Best of wishes,

GB
