Kind of new to the breeding game and I was wondering if there was a way to move up cows for the following year?  Is there a protocal that I could use after the cow has her calf to try and get her to cycle a little quicker?  if so what do I need to do?  I understand that the first heat after calving is probably not a good heat but would like to try and move a few cows up some for earlier calves. Thanks ahead of time for any input on this topic.

there was a thread on this topic a few months ago ... bottom line was the cow will probably come in natural heat about 28 -30 days... I would probably just make sure she was with a bull after about three weeks, if she sticks that cycle should move up 2 months... look up cowboy posts I was impressed with his answer

Great nutrition with a great mineral program.  Spare none if you want to move em up.

I agree with the nutritional aspect. The only other thing you can try is to hit her with a shot of Lutalyse right after birth and again 7 days later then make sure she is with a bull at 21 days postpartum. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. You can only manipulate mother nature so much, if the cow doesn't get fertilized, there is nothing that you can do. Good luck, hope I helped.

Nutrition is a key ingredient, as has been said earlier. I successfully moved 9 out of 10 May calvers to calving in March the following year by using CIDRs about 3 weeks after they calved.  All cycled excellent and all but one settled to breeding on this heat. Maybe I got lucky , i am not sure.
