How far is too far out to clip a calf for a show? I have a bunch to do before the last week in Denver and to make some extra money I am working the first week, so that leaves me a few days in between but if the weather is bad it makes it tough without a heated barn. Frostie

On bulls and heifers for winter shows I like to slick their necks 3 to 4 weeks prior to the show. I leave the top of the neck so I can blend it in and give the levelness I want. I have pretty good luck with this and it saves alot of clipping especially on the bigger cattle that have been show alot and seem to get annoyed with clipping on their necks.
Everything else I clip tight and then I basically just have to do a quick run over them a couple days before the show.

I would think that in the winter if you clip more than a week in advance you will need to go back over.  The positive is that it probably won't take too long to run over them quickly at the show.
