After selling most of my cattle, I changed my own website to become a website to offer cattle and related items for sale for other people.  It takes time to get going, but I'm feeling quite positive about the activity. I've gotten good feedback and have sold a lot of cattle and equipment from the site.  You can check it out at www.genesislivestock.com.  All the rates I charge are there.

start out with a journal and write down what you think people are buying for whatever reason, and come up with a better one.

this is market research.

i think it's funny to watch people go to a mall and buy clothes.  my favorite.  belts.  no one buys belts cause they all suck.

you cant buy a harness leather stitched belt with a good integrated brass buckle that isn't the cheap holster belt buckle.

no one ever makes any belts that are good.  the belt buckles are always funky.

always makes me wonder what the garment industry graveyard looks like.

look at junk and why it doesn't sell.  somebody at sometime had a bad idea.

Here ya go Knabe.  The garment industry is like every other; everything is driven by price.  People don't want to pay for quality; they just want cheap!  I spent 24 years in the western and work clothing business.  Trust me, you can get anything you want.  You just have to be willing to look for it, and pay the price.   http://www.sheplers.com/mens/western_belts/120145.html

Hey AAOK,

here's the full link

http://www.sheplers.com/mens/jean_casual_belts/belts/apparel/

again, these belts, to me anyway, are foo fooey.

so, i started looking around.

http://www.leathergoodsconnection.com/handmadebelts.html

pretty much i've NEVER seen the plain herman oak leather belts with the edge harness stitching anywhere in any store since about '85

other than the basket weave one listed here, i don't ever see anyone buy these.

http://www.naturalreflections.com/catalog/leather_belts_1.25-inch.html

these two are pretty lame.
http://www.leatherbelts.com/leather_belts/harness_belts_behar.html
http://www.leatherbelts.com/leather_belts/harness_belts_behar.html

here's one that's super lame with the logo in plain sight
http://www.sahalie.com/jump.jsp?itemID=11444&itemType=PRODUCT&iProductID=11444&rel=C&relid=12760&path=1%2C2%2C7%2C825

here's one with a decent buckle with a decent offset to flatten out the overlap with a keeper for the tine, but it's not harness stitched or herman oak leather.

http://www.manufactum.com/Produkt/193619/1402989/Schroederharnessleatherbeltformen.html

i guess i'll make my own again.  guys used to do that probably 30-40 years ago.

all in all, i'd say it's par for the course on the internet as well, nothing really except roller stamped belts and the hand done stuff is almost dead.

hmm, i sense a market,

This is so true.  Myself and my spouse have had a really tough 2008 money-wise.  We brought in very little income, and have had to MAJORLY cut back and have a small amount of "luxuries".  We are young (less than 25...haha), and it has been tough.  Everybody our age is out and about, going clothes shopping, going on holidays, purchasing things they "want" and dont need.  After much speculation, my spouse and I have come to realize just how much people waste!!!  There are so many things that are consumer-driven, and it is hilarous and shocking to see how people fall for it.  I would not want to know the amount of money people waste every year....or every week!  I have been working in retail for the last 3 months, and have also noticed the odd habits of the general public.  There are women who come in and blow tons of money, just because they feel like they need the clothes, but really dont.  Then there are others who complain that our marked-down-to-$5-shirts are "cheap".  Well yeah.....they are $5, and made in China!
At the end of the day, I am actually grateful that we have had to struggle for a bit.  It really sorts out the wants and needs in a persons life.  It makes me appreciate what we have, and how hard we have worked to maintain our lives.  I have learned a large lesson at a young age!

Getting back to the real post, you can make money by doing what you always dreamed of, using a skill you possess.  Exercise horses, like DS, fullfill your artistic talents, become a custom organizer, or scrapbooker, or babysitter, or cow-sitter.  Up here, it seems there are loads of cattlemen that want to go on holidays, but never can, because nobody is around to watch the cows or do chores.

Try to Start a Goodie Route A.K.A. PAPER ROUTE.  What I mean is Start Baking some of your favorite things and put them in a Basket and God to the Business in your town and Sell your stuff……Make sure you Dress for you environment.  At First you go between 10:30 am and 1:30 Am.  And Try not to over price your stuff.  This way you will be building a customer base. When you got a lot of repeat customers and know where to make the most money from one stop then you can make a better profit from your stuff

This is a good Stay at home Job because you can bake all the stuff a home.  Then if you have kids you can have someone watch them 3 hours in the middle of the day so you can go do your route.

First start off with easy thing then be more creative…..Some ideas

Some stuff
Cookies, Muffins, Rice Crispy treats, Yogurt and granola Chef Salad, Piece of Pie, Cupcake, Sandwich, Cheese Plate, Veggie plate….ETC.

The stuff that you think is perishable you put in a cooler in your car and bring it out when you go in to your customer.
