Who is everyones favorite Hereford bull?
For what purpose?  Show steers? Show heifers? Cows? Crossbreeding? Calving ease?  etc.

Show Steer- Purple Milsap, or Purple Inferno

Show Heifers- anything that comes from the Pure Gold or Online families mainly

Cows-  CS Boomer 29F,  BR DM Channing ET or Excel L18 (starting to gain popularity)

Crossbreeding- I'm a purebred Breeder. No experience in this area

Calving Ease- Easy Deal, Purple Tonic, About Time, and I think Kilowatts could gain popularity in the future.

These opinions are just off of cattle I've seen and matings I've done.

Showtime, Pure Gold, Channing, Moler.  I meant Crossfire the bull of Kephart & Dunn's not Wildfire.

Hard Drive and Reload are consistent hitters on my cows.  Purple Reign bulls are solid too.  Have Tonic and Currency calves that look good and just flushed to Milsap.  Used some About Time on a few heifers this year so hope his reports are true

Rockefeller-
How do your currency calves look? I have a couple cows bred to him next year and one to calve this year, any day. How are the BW? I worry about them not having enough power or being stout enough. But they should be really good maternally. Would he be heifer safe? I've heard yes and no.
I've seen quite a few About Time calves this spring and he will work. They are real attractive with good a hip and the ones I've seen are hairy. I am using About time, Tonic, Recruit and DelHawk Chesney on my first calf heifers.

I'm actually using some of Purple Reign's new bull, Womanizer, I've seen him in person and he looks pretty impressive. Stout, wide, with good rib shape and some what of an outcross to what I've been using. I'm using him to try and make some high performance show steers. Haven't heard any calf reports yet.

Underrated bull of the breed: CH Enuff Prophet from DelHawk. He sired another impressive set of calves at their sale last fall and has some good sons too ( Womanizer, Capitol 810 ).

Has anybody seen any John Wayne, Can-Am or Shadow calves? What are your thoughts?
All I've heard about the Can-Am's are they come really big.

CMAHerefords-
The Currency calves I have are pretty nice.  Got 1 bull and 1 heifer.  Both came around 85 pounds.  Could use a nickel more power, but good bone and hair.  Both out of plainer made cows.  He puts the look on em.  I wouldn't use him on heifers.  I love Tonic for heifers.  I'm using About Time of the Tonic daughters I have.  Heard nothing but good things on him.

I was a big fan of Remitall Embracer 8E....  I sure like Remitall Online 122L pretty dang well too.  He had a heck of a mother.

Really liked CS Boomer 29F

The Pure Golds sure have a look.

There aren't a lot of young bulls out there right now that I'm too high on...  I'm sure I'll find one one of these days.

I haven't really seen too many High Cotton calves in the Midwest area but the ones I have seen seem to have a lot of power and thickness to them. I know he has a great pedigree with the cotton 356 cow and the national champion Reload on the top side. The only thing with him is how good his EPDs are. I know that Reload is a little bit of a higher birth weight bull. Also I have not seen any daughters in production lately.

I'd say if you have a lower or moderate birth weight cow or a cow that needed more "guts" he would work.

Are there any reports out on the Cyrus calves and daughters yet? I'm thinking about giving him a try next year.

For first calf heifers my top five choices would be:
1.) Easy Deal ( being used heavily recently, Past Denver Champion, sired very popular set of calves last fall)

2.) Advance S109  (Star Lake's calves in their sale looked pretty good, haven't seen any big winners yet tho)

3.) About Time ( first calves are pretty popular this spring and probably will be this fall)

4.) Purple Tonic (19D son, sired numerous national winners and high sellers)

5.) Kilowatts ( first calves last fall looked pretty impressive at Ridgeview)

Another bull a lot of people use is Legend 242. I am personally not a big fan of his calves, if you are trying to make show cattle. He has a really good set of EPD's and carcass data tho. Just a personal preference of what your goal is.

We used Legend 242 last year. Hes has very nice light calves that get up and go to town when it comes to growing but I agree that they are a little rough around the edges not the best for show but great producers

High seller at Michigan State's Fall Fest last fall was a revolution ($38,000). She later went on to place 3rd in her class in Louisville.
That's the only Revolution calf I've really noticed.

I don't know if you care about horn or polled but I know of some people in Iowa that have had good success with Harland for first calf heifers. He could be another option for you. He's also an outcross to what most people use.

For calving ease, I have been suggesting Durango.  His EPDs say he is an easier calver than his son About Time, with more growth.  As has been stated, for pure calving ease, Legend 242 works well.

La Grand Reload will add power, but I think it is best to bred him to cows that are easy moving and softer made.

I agree with the comment about Enuff Prophet being the most underrated.  I have seen lots of good heifers compete at national shows that were sired by him.  Curious to see how Womanizer turns out.

One bull that really caught my attention in the May Hereford World was SLDK Vendetta V-9.  He combines both Pure Gold and Online is his pedigree.  Does anyone know if Sladek Farms exhibited this bull this past year?

I think DM BR SOONER is a really good bull, but they don't sell semen.
