Feed efficiency pathway

Anyone know of any byproducts or absence of them of feed efficiency and feed inefficiency?

Has anyone ever looked at metabolisim rates? I think one way to test feed effiency is to rough developing heifer calves. I did this on heifer calves one year.......pretty much ran them on cornstalks after they were weaned. It flushed several out as hard doers. On cows with calves this is different somewhat because of different milking rates.
