For me something with Angus or Hereford crossed with a Continental. I do not care if they have a little extra leather, the butter ball calves with a little shorter neck seem to fatten up really well for me, wont win any shows but they will put on some weight.
The calf on the left was that way, we were sorting through 60 commercial Angus calves for my sons first steer, he was a little shorter necked, a little fatter, but as the other calves were running away he just kept his head in the feed bunk eating. He was that way the entire time, finished out at 1350, graded choice.
