I was left shaking my head in disbelief today, when I heard on the radio, while I was baling hay, that some group is trying to gain enough support from the public to lobby the government to declare a holiday as Michael Jackson Day. When it comes to naming holidays for people, I can think of hundreds without any thought, that would be on my list long before MJ. ( How about a Walter Cronkite day for one that comes to mind). Michael Jackson may have had some musical talents, however, he failed miserably on a personal level, and represented much of what is wrong in this world. Am I losing it completely, or is there more simple minded people today than ever before? Give me a break!

Three Cheers for J I T

I was sick of the media coverage of that wierdo BEFORE it was even on the air -- and as expected, now it just will not end. Goodbye already -- sorry for the kids, but good grief!

I think you are absolutely right JIT, simple minded is being VERY kind in my book --

Glad the Iowa State fair let people vote against having a butter Michael Jackson, if you have been around the Iowa state fair its one of the largest.. They have butter sculptures done of a cow and a few other things luckily there is still a few smart people in Iowa that voted against having him be one of them.  ;D

Michael Jackson  holiday? OMG!!!! How stupid can people get!!! Ya lets make a holiday for some weirdo freak, sounds good to me!!!! Idiots... All I know is I'm real sick of hearing about the freak. He was basically a waste. The people that did die this year, that deserved recognition, Farrah Fawcet, Ed Mcmahon, I know I'm forgetting a few, but you know why I'm forgetting them, because they arent plastered all over the news like MJ! What has this world come too? Its really quite sad when you think about it. We recognize a sick minded man, before we recognize people that had a positive impact on the world, just sad....

I will never forget the memories of my great grandpa (who died this past thursday) and the Michael Jackson media coverage. He had recently broke his leg and had been going down hill, so I was staying with him often. He would look over at me and say there's gotta be something better on, its taken a week to bury that guy, hurry up and get him in the ground already, etc. I remember watching MJ's funeral with him, not knowing that within a week and a half or so I'd be watching his. I think we'd both agree that a MJ Holiday would be ridiculous!!!

Hey J I T don't try to fool us,  we know that you really like "moon walking" up there.   Just Kidding!!

You're exactly right, there are literally hundreds of people who would deserve a national holiday before MJ.   I've often wondered what MJ saw when he looked  at "The Man In the Mirror".    I could never understand how he could mutilate himself and not see that he was doing it.  I'm afraid there's enough people trying to alter their appearance without making an idol out of someone who's mind obviously went loopy.  Too bad--he was one of the most talented kids I've ever seen.   They say that genius is just a short step from insanity.

Hey--maybe there's a chance for an Iowegian to be a genius after all---if its just a short step!!   Wonder which direction I should go.   Oops---  hold up everyone-- I better not leave that question hanging out there.   I'm sure there's  plenty of people on SP that would love to tell me where to go!!

Speaking of interesting holiday though-- PETA had two Playboy bunnies in green bikinis handing out "Veggie Dogs" on "National Veggie Dog Day" in Washington, D.C. last week.  I don't think they asked for a proclamation to call it that--they just took the responsibility on themselves.   I think I'll just declare "National Iowegian Day"---of course most people wouldn't admit they're Iowegians so it might be a small celebration.

Go for it Lynn, especially if you can get the Bunnies in the bikinis! Sounds like a more worthwhile cause than having a " Wishing I was White" day for Michael Jackson.

OK, if I've got Grant's blessing, I guess I'll have to get all the details in place for the "National Iowegian Day"--although I'm not sure a Canadian can give me the go ahead here in the states.    I'm not even sure if I can find a Polka band anymore--and I guess I'll have to wait until closer to the holidays so we have access to lutefisk and lefse!!

There are probably a few polka bands sitting idle around here in Canada. Some of them may need to dust off the accordian, but I'm sure they would love the work. Mentioning Lutefisk, I saw a bumper sticker a few days ago that stated " legalize lutefisk". I can hardly imagine how hungry some Norwegians must have got to actually decide that Lutefisk and lefse can actually be considered to be FOOD!
BTW, my hometown still has a 3 day Polkafest that attracts polka dancers from all over N America. Never been to it myself, so maybe I don't know what I am missing! On second thought, most days I can hardly walk, so I doubt if hopping from one foot to the other, would work too good for me.

I know this is going to be looked really low on by some folks but I cant hold it back dont think any less of me for it:

When I saw the video of MJ's hair catching on fire at the pepsi commercial I was LMAO!!!

I think God was just trying to put him in the flames early.
