So I have a first calf cow that threw me a beautiful little heifer calf back in mid February.
Back on the evening of April 21, I watched her standing locked up as a bred cow was mounting her. I woke up early the next morning and bred her (4/22) I will admit I used a straw that I am not sure is any good any more. My thought process is that I am not really excited for January calves, so I will get rid of this semen. If she sticks fantastic, if not I got rid of a straw and I don't have to worry about a January calf. (which I am not real set up for) I was pretty happy how the breeding went that morning, and thought there was a good chance she would stick.
Flash forward to this evening. May 1. She is standing again. Multiple cows riding her, and she is locked up big time.
So what am I looking at here? I am certain she was standing on the 21st, and 10 days later I am again certain she is standing. I plan to catch her in the morning and breed her, however any thoughts on the short cycle? Is this pretty common? Am I not thinking of something i should know. Is it just a simple short cycle? Any info anyone can provide me would be greatly appreciated.
