Herford defect

I think that it would be fascinating to know how many cows carry the dwarfism defect. The Herford beat the defect in what the 70's.....it was pretty much wiped out. But if one would test say 5,000 cows at salebarns across the nation today......how many would be carriers % wise? What about other defects? As I understand it St. Louis Lad.........a bull born in 1890 something was mostly the base for spreading the dwarfism defect. The Herford breed exploded in popularity..........then in the 1950's the dwarfism became a problem and by say 1970 it defect was kind controlled.
