I figured since most of us have ponds maybe SOMEONE would know a good way to plug a hole that is keeping our pond at a low level.  On the edge there used to be trees and where this hole is was a root.  We are also in sinkhole country so that could be contributing.

We have put net wrap from round bales down in it, then poured in concrete and CAN NOT plug it.  When the pond gets up you can actually hear the water running out.

Any great cures????

sometimes you just need to start over. Check w/ your SWCD they might be able to help or give assistance.

set some live/ ( or other )  traps and see what kinda critter ya got livin in there....a mink can work his way around a hundred dollars worth of concete in about 2 minutes...and would probally use your hay net as bedding...... ;).......i  had to get rid of a big female this spring.....she had quite a condo going it seems....pond...was way down from drought last year and just woudnt come up??.....found the hole....then her....pond had been basically "unattended from the natural food chain for about 2 years.....she took it over...ate pratically every fish ...literally......she had had quite the life....( now shes streched on a board, and a 10 yr old boy has a wish of his grand dad makin' him a hat ( and his grand pals got a wish a seein' his face this xmas morning)........ ;D...if you are not seeing an obvious discharage spot where it is running out  then it is filling a void either from critter tunnels, sink hole ( ouch), dry spring voids or even a new spring traced to  with your pond volume leakage......after we evicted our tenent...ours finally filled back up to a steady level....howbig of pond we talking about??  how old?....are there creeks or is the pond  overflow  run "close"  to the bottom of the dam?...a few things could be going on here....got pics?  jbarl <cowboy>

You need to line your pond or at least the area you think you have the seep.  Your problem with concrete is water will still go around the edges.

The bentonite suggestion is ideal, but any kind of clay would help.  You can even get a kind of plastic liner called high density polyethylene (used at landfills) and lay down with bentonite or another clay on top if you really want to seal it good.

This is an elaboration of Red's suggestion.  Call your nearest NRCS-USDA office and ask if you can speak to the regional engineer.  They may be able to come out with your district conservationist to talk "water conservation" and offer suggestions.
