We have larger framed Bloodstone shorthorn heifer that is coming in heat and have quick acess to Kool and Ace of Diamonds. ( and I know Kool is a carrier  :() Of those two which one would downsize the calf and add the most muscle?

Based on calves I have seen out of larger framed cows, I would go with AOD. Kool can be useful in certain situations, I have just not seen to many Kools that made me go "wow". Also consider BW into the equation. Some use Kool as a calving ease sire, not sure about AOD. With all things considered, a live calf that is not show worthy and goes to the yards will mkae you more money than an awesome show prospect that is laying dead on the ground or cripples a heifer.

Both bulls have their place. ACE OF DIAMONDS will NOT downsize, period. In fact he WILL work just the opposite. From my experience,  Kool tends to breed big on big and small on small. Both are good bulls and Ace is bred to heifers with NO problems,by the folks that bred him. Ace works great on any of the Double Stuff lines,Sonny daughters, and according to friends in Oklahoma, he works well with some of the older shorthorn clubbie blood really well.

I'd give Vogels a call and ask them about using Ace Of Diamonds on heifers and about downsizing.    They're good folks and they'll give you a straight answer.  I agree with an earlier post that I haven't seen that many Kools that really caught my eye and also being a carrier I guess I'd probably try to find something else if I ruled out AOD.  Your main goal on a heifer is to get a live calf without tearing her up in the process.

I'm going to have to vote Kool. I've used him a lot on hfrs with no problems. I really like the Kool calves, also. I personally don't know anyone that has used AOD on hfrs , so I can't say. If it's your Greenhorn hfr, I think Kool would compliment her nicely. JMO , though. ;D

We've used Kool on heifers before with success.  Have had two steers out of him that showed really really well, as well as a heifer that did some winning.

Out of those 2 choices I would go with Kool. I have used him with success on heifers and have always gotten very nice calves! I have an awesome heifer calf this year out of a heifer I showed last year. Another heifer I raised out of him ended up winning quite a few shows and I have also had some nice steers out of Kool. I do really like the Ace of Diamonds bull, but if you are looking to down-size, I dont think he is the answer. I have a heifer I am showing this year and the judges say she is too big framed. I think he will definitely work on smaller framed cows though! Good luck!

Vogel's told me about the downsizing on AOD. HI VIEW Shorthorns of Lancaster, WI. bred the bull, and breed heifers to him with NO problems.
