Since we all loved and adored Cathy so much - what do  you all think about trying to do something special for her as a memorial, from the Steep Planet group- alot of you that were close to her in person - what do you think??, maybe something in her county???  I know when my Dad passed away we bought a Bench for the fair at our county and put a plaque in cement by the bench as a memorial.  Was just wondering......

I like the idea of a memorial.    I like the idea very much.  As to what - exactly..  I bet we'll see some good ideas.

Great idea. Jason and I were talking about setting up some kind of Cathy Billenstein scholarship.

I was wondering about the same thing.... not sure what would be most fitting... I like the idea of something in her own community, but SP was a big part of her community since it was formed. Keep us posted.........

I know this would be asking for too much, but I think the SP logo would be nice in red instead of blue. Just a thought. I'm game for anything else. Just tell me.

That sounds like a great idea justamom! WE all need to remember Red would want us to rememberher by the good times we had with her she would want us to remember her about that smiling face and the jokes and laughter she brought to our lives.WE all need to live life to its fullest as she always did!WE all need to be more welcoming around here open our hearts and care for each other as we grieve over the loss of a true friend! WE all need to pull together to give each other stregth for those who are lacking it as many of us are. Lets keep our strength, faith and love high we can pull together as steerplanet community Cathy is and will be missed but God needed her more than we needed her he has a plan for her in Heaven now she is pain free and loving every minute of it she is watching down upon us blessing us each step of our way till we re unite with her.  (angel)
God Bless us Red Brittney

I thought about it a lot last night and mentioned to a couple people about doing a annual scholarship in her name.  She helped so many people on here, I think that would best transcend what Cathy was all about.

We could then form a committee on here to read the entries and choose a scholarship winner every year.

I would ask Gidget or others close to the family to get the ok before we do any of this.

Also, telos I  had the same idea, I have something planned for the site.

As I read through the post notifiying us of her passing, I couldn't help but notice that there was so many she checked on and care for. I think a memorial in her name would be appropriate. I think many of us have only begun to feel the gap she may leave in our hearts. As many have said before I hope she is walking in green pasture finally at peace.

When you and Gidget and whomever decide what you think is the right thing to do just let me know I'll help in any way I can.
A scholarship is a great idea- it will help carry on her name for a good long time.  Cathy would like that I think.

I like the idea of a scholarship, but I know little about how they would work. The questions that come to mind are (1) how much would be awarded each year (2) how many years could it be continued for. If a scholarship is only going to be given for one or two years I think there may be a long term memorium that may be a more fitting tribute. As I said, I know less than nothing as to how these things are set up, but I do think that I would favor something that lasts more than a year or two.

Should the Steerplanet family be sending flowers ( or something else)to her funeral ?? Just a thought.

If you'd like any help or  ideas on a scholarship program I'd be willing to help.  I have served as a trustee for a couple of scholarship programs for several years.  I also served as our school board president for several years and our students benefit from probably more scholarships per capita than any school in Iowa.  I'm sure there may be others on SP who have served in similar capacities as well.

I like the idea of a scholarship in her name.  We will all just have to keep brainstorming.........  How about an award in her name that could be presented at OBE or Naile each year.  It seemed that those were her two favorite shows.  Juli may have some ideas here.

I never met the lady or know to much of her history but from the 2-3 years I have been connected with SP SHE WAS DEFINITELY A BIG PART OF GETTING IT STARTED AN OILING THE WHEELS WHEN IT NEEDED IT , it will definitely be different not seeing her name on the posts in the future , an the admiration from her friends tells me that she was a very good lady. I definitely think that she needs some kind of recognition so that in the future when new members ask who RED was it can be told what she had done an how sincere she was , an her deep love for cattle an her cattle friends .
