The economic situation in the Michigan is severe and the legislators and governor have been trying to balance a budget that has severe shortfalls. I have just heard the Governor Grandholm may line item veto all fundind for Extention and Agricultual Experiment Stations. This would effectivly stop all 4-H activities in the state and shut down all extention offices.

Is this just a Michigan thing or are other states seeing this same lack of support for 4-H and agriculture in general?

Sorry to hear this Dutch Pride...we moved away from Michigan 4 years ago before it got that bad.  I know several leading families in agriculture there and will hope they can get somthing done through Farm Bureau or other organizations like that.

Good luck over there!  Carrie

at the risk of "running on the field"

government workers, at least in CA, make more than the private sector for a comparable job, have better insurance and retirement, and to boot, the largest lobby group in terms of funds raised, and essentially control the state of CA's budget.  the public is totally unaware.

Michigan is probably using programs like ag to scare the public rather than address the real problems, just like CA.  in CA, they use schools, fire police to scare up votes.

the following is a michelle obama quote.
“We left corporate America, which is a lot of what we are asking young people to do.  Don’t go into corporate America.  You know, become teachers, work for the community,  be a social worker, be a nurse….move out of the money-making industry, into the helping industry.”  what happens if we teach an entire generation to do that?  where will enterprise/money come from?  private enterprise will be just some "failed" myth in a short time.  obama wrote " In his memoirs he describes the experience as working for a private business “like a spy behind enemy lines.” it couldn't be more clear what the stakes are.  it's past time to run on the field.

ignorance is strength!  it's clear. enlightenment leads to war, danger and disappointment.

to be clear, i am not pro-republican, and not remotely pro-bush.
