I am proud of a new calf born on my wife's 61st birthday.  He is out of our first blue cow and our Senior Rojo bull.  The calf looks like a fullblood shorthorn.  He is more white on his body with a touch of red, with a red head and the star on his forehead.  He looks like a very good show prospect.  We love him and he will grab your eye when you look at all the black ones out with him.  We had a heifer out of a Maine cow that we sold her calf last year from Ali to some people in south Texas who had a red heifer from Senior Rojo with a white ring around her upper tail, just below her tail head.  I have two more to calf and we are done this go around.  We will have several born between Thanksgiving and Christmas in the next session.  I will post a photo of the bull calf later.  I posted his mother and sire several years ago....

I got the largest rain since the end of April or first of May when we got 7.5 in a short period of time and it all ran off.  Little did we know that it would not rain again for a long time.  I got 1.55 inches yesterday.  When it get drier I will take my digital camera and get some photos.  My wife says I can take them off and put them on here.... maybe....

I do love calving time.  I have not pulled a calf this year, but pulled 15 last year without a loss of any kind......

I had a non-farming man to ask what are "cal-vez?" [ Accent mark on "cal"....  Use your best Spanish accent.]  I did not know what he was talking about, but soon learned he was discussing "calves." <cowboy>  (lol)
