Had our first fall calf last night, 283 days gestation. Vet said it was a heifer on 83 day ultrasound, and this was the last embryo from this mating and cow I had left. We had a flush mate to this calf sell in the Spring sale earlier this year for $2900, he was a nice black bull with white face. A flush mate sister to this calf won the open division at Missouri State Fair this year. So we were very excited for this little arrival. When it was born, my daughter was squealing with delight when she saw it was red with a white face (been her dream for years to have one of those). Mom is a bit protective, so we elected to just look from the outside. Imagine our surprise when the calf goes to stand and we see a scrotum sack My daughter went back into the house pouting!!!! I have never seen such disappointment happen so quickly! Oh well, at least we have a cute red bull with a white blaze! Oh, he is a Built Right and was 72 pounds. If he is half as nice as the other bull we sold, I will be happy, but that does not appease my daughter : She wanted to shove him back and get him to turn into a heifer!!! Hahaha...
