I slicked off a Beltie x Angus steer this morning and would welcome
your observations.

He weighs about 1000 today, gaining about
4 pounds a day over last 75 days.  He has
about 75 days remaining before the show.

Sorry I did not wash him before pix and he is not standing
just right.  Due to my broken pelvis I am running behind.
Feet get trimmed next week.

Thank you.

Just keep feeding him! I think he looks pretty good. Might be time to start thinking about some extra barley in his ration to give him a smooth, firm finish.

I'd also get his feet done by May 1, and then maybe reevaluate them about 30-40 days out.

Thank you sir.

A good scrubbing on his knees and other discolored
areas will help too.

I will likely slick him for our shows here in Illinois.
It will generate some discussion.

We'll have other purebred Belties in the string, one of which
I don't plan to clip until State Fair.  Once again to encourage
discussion.

Where do you all usually show around IL? We don't really do county fairs anymore, but my youngest brother kind of wants to see what they're about.

Where do you stall at the state fair? I'd like to come see your belties. I think they're interesting.

We show at Morgan County, FFA show in Carrollton
we usually show at a regional Beltie show
in Pecatonica, and the State Fair.

The show at Pecatonica is usually a good
show.  It is about 25 miles west of Rockford and
scheduled for July 2 this year.  Usually cattle
from 5-7 states.

The World Beef Expo is a good show and our national
show is in Louisville.

We are stalled toward the north end of the barn
at the State Fair.

We won't  be showing as much this summer.
I broke my pelvis last November and I am still
Kinda slow.
