anyone ever done that or seen one like that. seems like the safest bet in terms of power going out and all that. just considering it for ours we are going to build eventually...  ???

I do not think that they would be much of a benefit for you. they are still fairly airtight, they would not let the heat escape or fresh air in.
I would think that a safe alternative would be fans on a solar panel that kick on when the box reaches a certain temp.

WHERE DID YOU PURCHASE A SOLAR PANNEL FOR YOUR UNIT?
ZACH MAY I ASK WHY YOU WANT THEM TO BE ABLE TO WALK IN AND OUT OF THE COOL ROOM? JUST TRYING TO UNDERSTAND
WE ARE  NEW TO  USING A COOL ROOM AND THE INFORMATION AND TRICKS OF THE TRADE WOULD BE HELPFUL.

my figuring is when its 95, they will have enough sense to go in the A/C and still be able to get out if the power went off and i wasn't around. plus with the Strip doors, it will stay cool at night to and save some of that coolness till the morning and maybe be a bit more efficient while they cans till go back inside. it's really just the way ours is gonna be setup because of where we live

INTERESTING CONCEPT. WELL WE HAVE AN ALARM SYSTEM FROM COOL CALF THAT IS RUN ON A BACK UP BATTERY IF POWER GOES OFF. WHAT IT DOES IF THE NOISE OR THE TEMPURATURE GOES TO LOW OR HIGH FROM THE RANGE IT IS SET AT IT WILL AUTOMATICALLY CALL THE FIRST EMERGENCY NUMBER THAT IS PROGRAMED AND WILL CONTINUE CALLING NUMBERS UNTIL SOMEONE ANSWERS AND ENTERS THE CODE. YOU CAN ALSO CALL THE UNIT THROUGHT OUT THE DAY AND IT WILL GIVE YOU THE TEMPURATURE READINGS OF THE COOL ROOM AND THAN IT WILL EVEN LET YOU LISTEN TO THE ROOM. MY NEPHEW ACCIDENTIALLY TURNED THE ALARM ON BEFORE THE COOL ROOM WAS CLOSED UP ONE MORNING (AT 5AM) AND THE ALARM WENT OFF AND WOKE UP HALF THE FAMILY BEFORE HE GOT THE ALARM TURNED OFF.  HAHA WE FOUND IT FUNNY AT LEAST CAUSE WE WERE ALREADY UP.

Having strips on the door wouldnt be a bad idea but having a cooler that that animals can walk in and out of will be no benefit for hair growth. And most animals wont just walk through those plastic strips. The alarm idea is a great idea KPSC
