That is interesting that Dunn is using him.  I'd place a lot of credibility with him.

I'd be interested to hear if folks are having more/less calving difficulties or structural issues out of Red Hot compared to Heat Wave or his sons.

Red Hot. Hmm. To look at him you would wonder why they kept such a furry gomer bull. He does not impress in the flesh, but as my dad always told me, you only look at a bull till his calves hit the ground. RedHot is the best BREEDING heat son out here (Seeker or Wave). Hibma has absolutley rung the bell with him and Klingners top calves are out of him. This mix and mash game is nothing but a roll of the dice, but I can tell you, I loaded my gun with some redhot last year and I expect them to be just like the hwaves.

Yeah, Himba hit the jackpot with this one and his calves...I got to see some calves out of Red Hot at Himba's/Fruhling Angus private treaty sale this winter.  There was a Red Hot x Chi heifer that was flat powerful.  Some really nice calves.  Speaking of Himba, I would place quite a bit of credibility with him too...I like the way his calves look and I think he's a super nice guy.

I was told to watch the temperments. They are a little hot headed. Other wise the ones I have seen have been meat wagons but a tick straight.

Some are straight. Name me a bull who hits a dinger that doesnt throw em straight. Its a crapshoot. Breeding to heatwave is almost inhumane. I have had to Csection calves out of HW and 1600 lb ground sows. If this were about form and function this page would be named something other than Steer Planet. There are a hundred new Heatwave sons every year. Redhot is almost painful to look at, but if you like em thick and hairy, he does something right. The person who started this thread has my thumbs up for the "possibility" of a good one  or two. If they would have said they had 4 Almost Famous calves brewing I would have laughed.

I am with you on the Heatwave. I don't use him and that is probably why I only sell a few county fair calves. I tried him once and still have 4 straws of his original semen in the tank. The cow prolapsed and there was no reason except that he is a hard calving bugger. I think most "club bulls" are a crap shoot.

When you say he is hard to look at is it just because he's ugly or does he "not get around too well" anymore?

He is an ugly midget. A sound ugly midget, but an ugly midget none the less. His calves are good and that is all that matters.

I don't care about the ugly part.  I'd just like to veer away a little bit from the extreme crippling problems.  There may not be much difference, but I feel better at least using a bull that can still walk past three years old.  Bulls are supposed to look like bulls though - they ain't supposed to look like show steers.

I've never seen him, but Silver Bullet must be in the same category.  Nobody has ever let a photo out of him, but his calves certainly are good.  They seem to be turning out pretty well as big calves also.

I thought real hard about using Monopoly but didn't.  He is supposed to be a short one also.  Matt Lautner told me to use him on high% exotic cows which we don't have.

I seen Monopoly.  He didn't look that small.  There were alot smaller bulls from Lautner there.  Actually didn't look like a bad bull.  Compared to some he moved really well.

Had the 1st red hotcalf yesterday.  Problem was it was black and a heifer!  Looks like a good one though, with lots of thickness, not coarse, weighed 87# out of a low percentage maine commercial cow.

Chambero, I saw Silver Bullet at Bonhams in Okla. a few years ago. He is a very cool looking bull and at the time walked extremely well. He is a small very well put together, good haired kind of a bull. Never understood why they never had a picture of him. Maybe, to create some mystic. The person who owned him(did not catch his name) said I would be hearing more of him and was thinking of naming him Silver Bullet. He was right.

Last I heard Mark Ray had purchased the bull a couple of years ago.  Telos, the person you would have been talking to was Clint McCauley.  I'll beat everbody to the punch and remind you that the bull is a double carrier.

His double carrier status is the reason I didn't use him this year.  Went with Yellowjacket instead on cows I wanted a colored calf out of.  However, there are quite a few Silver Bullet calves down here that seem to be turning out pretty well in the end.  I've got friends that have used him and I haven't heard of the structure problems you get with some other Charolais-X bulls like Alias.  I just figured he must be ugly since you never see a photo of him.

We just had a Red Hot calf born a few minutes ago. Born unassisted from our Black Dice cow. 4 days late. It is black, with a white underbelly. 85 lbs. Very aggressive calf. She looks like a pretty good one.
