It is a rather unnerving day. They have been warning of tornados since yesterday for our area. There were some major storms including huge hail and a couple Tornados just east of here on Saturday. We got .6 inch rain but crops were wiped out about 5 miles from here I have attached the weather map for this area. We are located right between the words " High" and "Risk" on this map

The head meterologist for the Weather Network, just tweeted the following " Conditions are right for S Sask to experience Oklahoma style T storms today. Likely the most violent storms in N America- possibly the world"

All I really wanted to hear today. Hope he is wrong and hope everyone can stay safe!

Nothing happening here yet, other than it is windy, very humid and the sky looks strange. Not many people realize that Southern Saskatchewan is the northern edge of Tornado Alley. We don't get as many through these parts as in states south of us but we seem to have been getting more every year for the past  few years. Right now it looks like we may miss everything but they can develop in a few short minutes.

Aj , I think you live in what's called Tornado Alley. Do you find a certain type of cow is evolving through survival of the fittest with all the tornados.
I was thinking about this going around and around baling and looking off to the east towards JIT and watching the bellowing storm clouds form.
Are the big cows surviving because they have more mass so they are harder to move when the tornado comes over?
Are the smaller cows flourishing because they have less square inches of hide for a 2x4 to puncture them?
If you are calving then and a tornado comes over, are the Big birth weight calves staying put?
Does a hairy Galloway have more protection then a slick haired Holstein when it hails?
Is it easier to see a belted Galloway flying through the air than an Angus?
Do you look up in the sky for falling Longhorns so you don't get poked by their large horns?

Steer Planet Grin ;D

Fortunately we got through yesterday with just a few showers and some wind. I have heard of 4 tornados that did touch down, but most were in open country. Two went through SE of Regina and a couple more east of here. I have also heard that there was a pretty big tornado near Poplar Montana, but haven't heard much more about it. Lots of reports of hail again last night as well. I spoke with a person who said that two days after the wicked storm on Saturday, that the hail was still a foot deep on the north side of their buildings... and that was two days after the storm went through! Every building in their yard was seriously damaged. Their silage barley was almost ready to go into the pit, but now you can hardly tell that a crop was seeded there. Mother Nature needs her meds adjusted!
