I could talk about it all day but you would have much better results if you searched it and read all of the previous responses

LOL...yeah I am going to refrain from writing the small novel I ussually do on these showmanship posts...as an exhibitor it was my favorite class to show in and as a judge its one of my favorite classes to judge...search and there are tons of postson here already...if you dont find what you need feel free to let me know and I will write you that small novel personnaly or have a convo over phone with you...main points
1)It all starts at home...the one leading the calf in the ring needs to be the one doing the bulk of the work at home.
2)Know your calf...know strengths and weakness, pedigree, diet, schedule, age, etc.
3)Know why you do what you do...dont just do it because you saw someone else do it.

Thats pretty much the Cliff's Notes of the Cliff's Notes of what I generally write.

(lol)    Now that's funny.  At least you can say you got your point across to them twisted!  <cowboy>  How do u feel 'bout a nice cowboy hat?  Just for the record, I have mixed feelings about the clothing thing.  A ratty baseball cap... probably not.  But my son was scolded by a showmanship judge at a national show for not wearing the right jeans and boots.  His jeans were clean and pressed and no, he didn't have on boots, but they were appropriate shoes... certainly not tennies.  I thought that was a bit much... we certainly didn't get that dress code memo.  ;D

I dont think there should ever be a cap or hat of any kind on an exhibitors head in showmanship. You see it more among the Brahman showers, but I think they shouldnt wear any kind of cap or hat.  As far as dress, I think they should be neat and pressed, shirts tucked in, belts on, and dont necessarily have to have boots, but I think they should wear a leather, closed toe, none backless shoe.  I also prefer their shirts be collared but I know at some of the Jr national shows they give all the kids the same TShirt to wear.

LOL and for the record I know Nathan and he is an excellent showman...he easily outshowed everyone that came in the ring that day, but I have given him a pretty hard time about wearing the cap.  One time I was picking on him and he told me next time I judged he was gonna put a cap on his calf, thus the other statement...lol

If you live in Texas, or the surrounding states, I would suggest that you attend the Maine Education event that the Texas Maine Anjou Association is hosting.  It will include a demonstration on showmanship.  You can find out more about it at www.maineanjoueducation.com  The event is on Sept. 24th in the Decatur/Boyd area.
