A guy I know is interested in trying to make some Blue Roan steers out of his Angus cows.  He is interested in either Sin City or Absolut.  Thoughts on either?  I unfortunately cant tell you much about the cows that he is looking to breed them to, just that he is hoping to get lucky and get some Blue Roan steers out of some Angus cows.  Which bull do you prefer?  I would imagine it would be hard to make much of a case for Absolut since he is young yet.

Don't know much about Absolut, don't really care for Sin City, there are much better steer bulls out there for blue roans IMO

Sin City's calves really grow.  I like them for commercial usage, but I do not know if they will work as a show steer.  The ones we have had are too much off the ground.  They are vigorous and will out grow most other calves.

Notorious and TM Gus are two really good white bulls that might work for your friend.

LOTS of blue roans out of Manchild, and if the cows are moderate and stout, he can throw some big time calves.

If it's for steers,  would use Vegas B4 Sin City. Stouter calves out of him in general. Your friend is right about using a white SH when trying to get roans. That is the best shot. Brent

I would use TM Gus or Manchild before Sin City also..... for STEER babies...I just talked about Sin City in my previous post because StillLearning asked about him. But then for heifers i would use Sin City...only because we have had 2 of them and showed them up here and we have done very well and they make good cows also.

I don't know..we've used Sin City, and the heifers are too tall for me...I think that Gus is the better of the two bulls for ME and maybe for what is becoming more popular..a more moderate cow.  Gus is still going to sire soundness and maternal ability...study his pedigree and you will find that he might be a better "heifer" bull than Sin City in time....When Stumpy gets back from NAILE, I bet he would be glad to talk about Gus, and I would like to see what he does in the next year or so.

Not trying to say that Sin City wouldn't work, he's a great bull.  If he works for you, which he has, you've posted some really nice calves out of him, but I might like somethin a little more moderate and thick.

Stumpy's Gus bull is a real nice bull, I saw him this past weekend at L'ville. I watched him on the move and he travels out well. Nice length, depth, rib, testicles, etc. He's well balanced in most all the traits. I liked him and Stumpy and his gal were really nice folks.

I really am not impressed with sin city. . .  his calves are big and dont have and but. . . they are narrow based and very clumbsy when born i would use Gus or alias

Thank-you all for the nice compliments. I really enjoyed meeting up with some of the SP crew at the NAILE. I will say that the amll group of Gus calves we have out of comm. Angus cows (mostly OCC based) are very consistent and high quality. As well, like Justin suggested they calve out very easily. If you have anymore questions please feel free to ask! Thank-you again everyone. ;D

Having a son who likes blue roans too has had me follow gus.  You said that he calves easily, but I assume not easiy enough for simmi cross clubby heifers?

I am still looking for the white shorthorn bull that calves like an angus....
