Here's a couple of pictures of my daughters shorthorn steer that she is showing this year. She has done real good with him so far I am just concern that we is getting to heavy to soon. He weighs 955 right now and the fair is not until Jan. Do you think he is weight is okay for a Jan. fair??

It's hard to tell in pictures what his ideal finished weight would be but here's my take. You've got just over 120 days between now and Jan 1. If he gains 3 lbs/day between now and then he'll be just over 1300 at the beginning of Jan. I'd say you're pretty close to being on track but I'd get him on a scale in about a month again to see what he's gained.

The steer looks great.  I would say he is right where he needs to be.  It's sure a lot easier to hold one for a couple of weeks than it is to have a steer which still needs to gain another 100 pounds.  BTW: your daughter is growing up

SKF,

He looks good. Very similar to a SH my daughter had last year (county).  She weighed in at 834 in mid Sept and finished at 1320 in late Feb.  We watched his ration amount very closely.  He placed first in his class and was looked at really hard in the Grand Champion drive.  It's just that most judges seems to want a bit lighter steer.  However, had his weight been less with his frame size, he wouldn't have looked right.  It's a tough place to be in with such a large framed steer.  Sounds like you are right on course at least from our experience.  I think I saw you in GA but didn't get a chance to say hello.  We were on different aisles this year.  Good luck.

We were at Lake City in May but haven't done any other ones.  It's not that we wouldn't like to, just that the girls also show horses and it's hard to do it all.
Hey, I saw your black/white photo of the bull calf -- what a cutie!  We are relatively new to this but our first two show heifers are due beginning in late Sept.
I can't wait to see what we get.
Do you sell your heifers or do you use them as replacers? D
