We have a Texas Hold'em steer that is very weak on his topline. He was born in late april 08 and we are guessing his weight to be around 1025. We have an upcoming show the 3rd week in june and our county fair the 3rd week of july and possibly some jackpot shows nearby throught this year.We are talking about implanting him once. Does anyone out there recomend this??? Or do you think he will develope???Right now he is being hand fed with three other show cattle tied up, and each are fed seperatly. He is fed a ration with purina show show and impact feed and also some long stemed hay. I am only 12 years old and am looking for some help on how to feed him correctly.
Ideas would be appreciated. Again im only 12 and am in need of some help. This will be my 2nd year at state fair now and have high expectations of this animal.
Ideas would be wonderful
Thank You :-\

Well we dont implant cause it can cause the hair to fall out and here in Iowa ya gotta have gobs of hair- Ive never heard of an implant helping a weak top, but Id sure bulk him up with kent winning fill and some beet pulp and some grass hay, also dont tie his head up too high cause that can weaken his top also cause it can make them stretch too much.  dont put him on cement either bad on their legs and their muscles.  Just some suggestions.

Thanks for the comment from Iowa.  Minnesota seems to be very much a hair show also.  My Texas Hold'em Steer seems to be coming around quite a bit in the last week.  We just started tieing seperately about 2 weeks ago.  We are not tieing to terribly high as this was commented by the previous owners as well.  We had planned on adding some beet pulp to high feed in the next couple weeks but what is Kent fill?  I am not familiar with this and my father was not either.  Is this a particular brand and do you know if they sell this product in Minnesota?

I really really appreciate the comments as I am very new to this and want to learn as much as I can.

THANKS A BUNCH!! ;D

If your calf is sound you can feed him ShowFlexx, it will help put a little more pop in the topline as well as define his muscling, you feed it the last 40 days before your final show. Make sure the calf has enough finish on him when you start feeding it to him, it adds muscle so they need to have a good fat cover before you start. You can find information on it through the Sullivan's web page. We fed it 2 years ago and it worked real well, last years steer popped at the pastern some, so we did not use it.
