Updated - Daily Hair Care Products

I have used a lot of different things for daily hair care products over the years, and I just wanted to see what other people use.  I have searched through this site, but havn't really found any posts from the last five years and just thought I would see if people are still trusting the same old Kleen Sheen, zoom bloom, vinegar, etc mixtures, or if they are using some new combinations.

I'm not interested in Show Coat. IMHO I just don't find the product worth the money,  I'll stick to good old fashioned elbow grease for growing hair. For this post, I'm interested in an affordable concoction for keeping their hair and hide conditioned and healthy.

Kleen Sheen and vinegar daily, Revive (winter) or Revive Lite (summer) once or twice a week.  Shampoo only maybe the day before the show.  Use a rice root brush and roto brush daily and at least blow them out daily if no time or too cold to rinse.

Man, I hear you on the cost of the Show Coat.  I am sure that there is a lot of cost involved with making the stuff.

I broke down and tried it last summer.  Again, it is expensive......but I have never seen anything like it.  Understand, we know how to grow hair.  However, this was a bad haired steer that just didn't have it.  He did when we were done!

As far as other stuff, I am a big believer in the old "less is more" mentality.

Condition a couple times a week, soap once a week, and just cheap WalMart type of Olive Oil aerosol hair mist.

I will never use anything other than Showcoat products again! It is expensive but it takes very little to do A LOT of good! I don't follow the recommended process, like the shampoo because I've always liked clear choice but just a quick spray of Showcoat every day can make a a big difference in terms of hair growth. I also apply the Dresscoat  conditioner two to three times a week. A gallon can last almost two months for two head for me. Plus I've always thought that a lot of the conditioners and hair products have too much silicone in it to do much good. To me it seems like Showcoat is worth the money. If you want to stay as cheap as possible, in the ethnic women's hair care section at Walmart is a green can of ORS sheen spray. It lasts a long time and really conditions the hair. We use it on calves that are going to be sold. I have also heard of people using windshield washer fluid to keep dirt off when oil can't be applied (in the sun) and some use WD40 for oil

You never want to use windshield washer fluid as a hair care product. It is used to prepare cattle for sales that cant be washed or a quick clean if the weather is bad out but it strips the hair and hide of any product and will dry them out faster than you can imagine. If you are using it you want to make sure you can deeply condition both the skin and the hide to replenish the oil into them. Also wd-40 shouldn't be used as a hair care product, it does a lot of the same and can be used to break down adhesive after a show but that's it.

As fair as hair care products go, there is nothing better than showcoat. Yes its expensive but it flat works. I was skeptical for a while but after using it and seeing results on harder haired animals I will never use anything else. Cheap isn't always the answer when it comes to showing cattle, this isn't a cheap venture where you can still get results by cutting corners.

We have always used the elbow grease method but took the plunge and bought my first gallon of show coat a week ago.  I was skeptical but was recommended by someone I trust and have to say that you can see the difference from kleen sheen and vinegar. 

She is black but looks like I dyed it.  The hair is thicker and healthier looking than before.  definitely, noticeable after just after one week, as opposed to the two months of working hair.  I will continue to use it
