I've seen 10-15 new Shorthorn bulls advertised just lately with basically the same genetics. There must be a heck of a market for Shorthorn semen. I can't keep them all straight.

Havent seen either up close-look great in photos-expect 100 lb calves out of the modern genetics O0

Mark, i don't understand why you make a blanket statement like that. It's not a given that you are going to get 100 lb calves for sure. Out of Tuscaloosas' , 21 registered calves - 3 are over 100 lbs. There is not many bulls out there at all , that aren't going to throw you an above average bwt calf. By that I mean if your bull is throwing all 50 to 65 lb midgets then he will occasionally throw you a 80 to 85 lber. Just like if a bull is siring 80 to 90 lbers , then you will occasionally throw a 100 lb calf.
As far as these 2 bulls go, I liked the Waco bull pretty well except wasn't quite right on those front feet. But he is out of a tremendous cow in my opinion.

Real world Bws on Sonny sons that are not proven calving ease(Chiller is the only one I know of) out of Modern-meaning: what would amount to some rodeo-maybe warrior or enticer in the background-and some semblence of of the offshoots of KaBa Rose are gonna be 100 pounds ( listed at 93-89-99 94) at birth. Larger framed cows can spit em out no problem-Ive been using these genetics since the first son of rose(out of Byland Pattern) came out in I believe 1993.Those cattle I have left are line bred Rose-57-picture Perfect-I dont have any of the latest low bw Captain Obvious deals-because Im still breeding for show perse-LGS Lawrence Jackson is out of a sonny-superdazzler-mattis bull-bred him to his paternal sister etc-how many cattle do you have that go back to Sonny-etc at least once?, and to the rose deal at least 2-3 times?

Buying a bull seems like a crap shoot anyway. There have been instances where 2 full brothers would tend to sire calves differently that each other.

I am impressed with both.  I am breeding two of our donors to Tuscaloosa this year with sexed semen.  Waco looks to be an impressive kind too.

We have used Tuscaloosa the last 2 years.  I really like the calves.  Yes I had one big calf last year.  This year my Tuscaloosa calves  have been in the low 80#.  Really cocky fronted and thick.  We flushed this spring using sexed semen and out of 12 eggs only had one non-fertile.  As far as DF Waco,  I like him so much when I saw him I bought in on him.  So this year I will breed all my mature cows to either Waco or Tuscaloosa.  We have 5ML Sexed semen on Waco so I am looking for some outstanding Donor cows to share flushes on with Waco.  The Dam of Waco has a Vegas bull calf  this year I understand is just unbelievable good.  I have not seen him yet but will in the near future.  I wonder what Bob will name him.  Any suggestions!!!  If anyone has any other questions on Waco or Tuscaloosa calves just ask me  and I will try to answer you with what I know.
Also lets help Bob name the Vegas X Dottie calf.

Seeing them both as babies, I liked Waco better on everything except his front feet. He tends to toe out some, but he is SO powerful. He walked fine every time I saw him, but would just like to get those toes going forward.  Tuscaloosa was much better as a two year old than he was as a yearling. I got the chance to work with him for their sale after he was shown at our state fair, and he had gotten SO much better in that month and a half, it was ridiculous.  He really started to look like Sonny at that point. It will be interesting to see what Waco does with his first calf crop, two very good bulls here.

I like both bulls very much and would use either if I didn't have so much of that breeding in my herd.  Someone who knows told me that the best calves in their herd are the Bloodstones out of Sonny cows.  When Trump first came out, I used him on heifers with good results.  We just had 2 Trump X full sib to Rose T90 calves, bull at 92, heifer at 82.  I have not had any real calving ease issues with the Trump line cattle I've had.  However, the 'calving ease' son of 844 I bought to use on heifers was a train wreck last year.  The sisters to those females were bred to a full brother to T90 I had for 2010 calves and they averaged 10-15 pounds lighter at birth than those out of the 844 son.  Go figure.
