I'm looking for some prints for our house and for my office.  I want something focusing on cattle ranching.  I really like the work of Tim Cox, but his horse-oriented paintings aren't "us".  Does anyone have any artists they'd recommended.

Would you be interested in a photograph?  I have a whole bunch of cowboy photos from a Ranch Rodeo that I took.  I will give you the URL if you want.

try this on for size

http://www.johnswestern.com/servlet/the-Western-Art-cln-Etchings-%26-Prints/Categories

most are small though

i framed a print of this one.

western horseman has a lot of prints available.  you could go to the national western, or like the cutting futurity at will rogers and go to the artist section and buy prints.

theres a lady out here who specializes in ranch photography.  a popular picture is figure 8 roping which most people have never heard of .

phil tognazzini has a print of one.

here's a link of a local show.

http://www.cattlemenswesternartshow.com/directory.html  phil's in there.

here's one of ernie morris with figure 8 roping

at our fair, they still have this competition.  i'd say it has a catch rate of about 25%.

get some prints of ed connell's artwork by randy steffen book on horsemanship

I recomend David Stoecklein.  He is a true Rancher Artist.  I love his cattle dog photography.

I highly recommend frostback's suggestion of Bernie Brown. Bernie worked with my dad for several years before he became a well known western artist and he is as good as I have seen .

I'm looking for cattle paintings minus the horses, or at least where the horses aren't the primary subject.

Bandow....What kind of camera do you shoot with?  I've always shot with a Cannon with film...but I'm toying with going digital.  I love the picture of the little boy on the first one.

Chambero...how much do you want to spend.  how about Amanda Rathal?  Very reasonable and nice prints.  I got hubby One for The money when it first came out.

The backgrounds are definately the US Midwest, ( I love the old barns), but the cattle are good....and no ponies!

I am a huge Chris Owen fan.  I have a kind of abstract of a guy roping a cow in my work office.  I always get compliments.

Mega dittos for Stoecklein.  His are photographs, not paintings, but are "real" and he's captured some well known ranchers and ranches all around the country.  I always order his calendars.  For prints from paintings, check out James Bama.  He's got some really great western/cowboy oriented work.

I have a Nikon D200.  Most of the photos are shot with the 70-200mm VR f/2.8 lense.  It is a 3-4K contrapion.  I would reccomend a Nikon D40 or D80 for beginners who want a good DSLR lense.
Yes, so far everyone loves the little boy photo.  He was the most precious sight, spurs and all!

WOW!  What a talented new wife you have.  Some of her drawing look almost like photographs.

Check out Martin Grelle---my favorite western artist.  His prints are probably still fairly reasonable but the orignals are in the thousands of dollars range because of all the awards he's won.  I saw a couple of his originals at the Cowboy Hall of Fame and they're absolutley incredible.
