We got our first TM Gus calf today out of the heifer pictured.  What color do you think he is?  I'll post a picture when he's 2-3 days old.

Hey Lynn would it be cheating if I guessed? How are mom and calf doing? Our SULL Augusta Pride show heifer from last year calved to Gus today. I am sorry to report that it was our heaviest Gus calf to date. He went 95 pounds and we did help her. She passed a lump of fat with him which I did expect, she was fed hard to Louisville time so the fault is mine, he wouldn't have had to be that big. The other heifers have been going 80-85 for BW to Gus and that I can live with. I am happy to say he popped up and so did mom they are doing great and he looks like a very nice calf. If anyone else has any Gus babys let me know they are doing. I can't wait to see yours Lynn!

I'll "vote" lots of white but with red roan "patches".

Just put another Gus baby on the scale, 75# bull out of a first calver. Black mom red baby. We have had all kinds of colors so the Oakbar mystery is still anyones guess. Should we start a little pool for winner takes all?

I'm going to guess Blue-Roan, cuz it's been a popular color on here lately.......... But for-real, idn..  maybe red?  But genetically, White bulls should only produce whites and roans...

My first guess is a red neck roan... second guess is a white. White bulls are usually good for eliminating red and white markings. They usually sire even roans or white. Our Leader 21 calves have been very dark roans or an even roan. I am hoping Lynn is going to provide a flush in his Myrtle Bo cow to the winner!!!

Stumpy, you're disqualified!!  I gave you too much information already!!

Sorry, I'm not able to offer a flush on Myrtle to the winner,JIT,  I might be willing to talk about a shared flush with you, though--using the bull of your choice, of course!!

Sure is good to see I can pique everyone's curiosity, though!!

The answer is either really simple or very unexpected--but then again it might not be either one!!

I can't fool you guys at all can I??  It was kind of fun to get some of you thinking a little though!!  Here he is just a few minutes ago and, although the lighting isn't real good and he isn't standing real well, it was the best pic I could get this morning.  He's a red neck roan(big surprise, huh) with a real interesting, almost perfectly straight  line dividing the red and roan parts of his body on the show side.  He weighed 85# and we did have to help the process--alot in fact!!    There's no real calving ease on the dam's side  and the heifer did not seem to dilate very well.  He's long and tall for his weight though so I'm glad she didn't cook him any longer.  I'm glad he's finally here and now we'll move on to hope for a good flush out of Myrtle on Wednesday.  She was AI'd  with sexed Gus semen last week so we're keeping our fingers crossed for a good flush.

By the way, I'm thinking of naming him Justin, Stumpy, Mark, or something like that in case we decide to steer him later!! LOL

After knowing a cute, adorable female named Red I just couldn't bring myself to name a bull calf that!!  I do have an all red  JPJ heifer--oh yeah, my daughter already named her Wynonna.  Come to think of it, I wouldn't name one of my heifers that either--she'd probably get so accident prone that I'd go broke buying bubble wrap to put on her!!  Ha, Ha!!
