I was told that Cagwin and Aegeter wanted the bw to be a hush hush deal. I assume that that it would cut in on their %'s if the big name sales started to have problems. Cagwin is in charge of The Shorthorn Country. He owns cattle and does the sale deal also. I'm not blasting him but Cag has an awfull lot of leverage. I do think it should be a concern with the ownership of the Country. The ceo can't own Shorthorn cattle. Why should the owner of the magazine be allowed to own cattle. Its a conflict of ownership to me. 1 out of 10 shorthorn sale catalogs have bwt's listed. Its crazy.jmo

anyone should be allowed to own anything.  maybe we should outlaw webpages for one's own cattle if conflict of interest is an issue.

getting people other than shorthorn breeders to own shorthorns will/is? a train wreck if they are so terrible.

again, the issue to me is if one's product is better, one won't have any to sell if the rest suck and they won't have any either since no one will buy them.

On the subject of ownership,

Shorthorn Country is a private entity and business, if you don't think that the owner of that business should be able to own cattle or that is some conflict of interest, cancel your subscription and don't advertise.

aj... I would say that you have yet again stepped over the line. Again you have propagated " hear say" that may be true or not true. From what you have stated here, these two men did not say this directly to you, but you received this second hand. I have spoken to these two guys several times over the years and not once has either told me not to print BWs. Maybe they did say this to someone, but that is not for me to say.... or quite frankly, you either. I would suggest that if you spent half as much time working on finding solutions rather than spreading rumour, we would probably all be better off.

aj... your memory is so short. I did not start this. You started it by making some very derogatory remarks. Why do you think I asked you to PM me? It was because I did not think it was proper for you or anyone to make comments on this forum who may not be here to comment themselves. So what do you do? You go right ahead and make some statements that in many circles could get you into a liable suit. I would have made my comments if it was the Queen of Sheba, you or anyone else who made such comments. It is just WRONG! I would think a man of your age should understand this. I started this thread to get some comments on a Red Angus bull I saw on a web page that I thought looked pretty neat. I know absolutely nothing about him other than he looks good in his picture. You were the one who side swiped this thread with some ridiculous comments, and if you look back I decided to not comment as your comments did not deserve my time to make some comments. Then you had to get personal again, and make some remarks that are totally uncalled for. I would suggest that you are really improving your reputation in the beef industry and specifically in the Shorthorn breed when you make such uncalled for accusations.

So, I am so close to Cagwin?  Hmmm... I talk to hundreds of other breeders many more times than I have ever spoken with Don Cagwin. If I see him at a show, I will speak to him, but as far as visiting on the phone, we maybe speak once or twice a year. As far as the article in Shorthorn Country, I have no idea if Cagwin had anything to do with it. I had no contact with him about it, and I was just as surprised as anyone, when I was asked by the editor if I would agree to it. Deb told me, that they were looking for a Shorthorn operation to do an article on, that had been in the breed for many years, and where the Shorthorn business was their main business. So if you are going to be sick, go ahead and puke your guts out. I make no apologies for trying to make my living from raising and marketing Shorthorns.

Sometimes the comments you make are beyond dumb. I need to learn to not comment on them, as it just gets you grumpy again.

aj, Are you jealous of all successfull cattlemen or just the ones that raise the same breed of cattle as you? You talk about big bwts as being the ruin of the Shorthorn breed , but to me, you getting on this forum  & acting so childish & trying to pick fights or discredit breeders of Shorthorn cattle could be just as big a detriment . JMO.

We went without a breed magazine in Canada for a while and it is not a good thing. The people who put themselves out there to run a magazine are to be congratulated. If it was such a profitable venture there would be new magazines starting up all the time!
I'm not sure I would want to be a sale consultant because anyone that's been in cattle any length of time knows that what can go wrong probably will at some point. It's real easy to blame the consultant.
Don Cagwin has raised some really good cattle over the years and I would say by looking at his present herd bull line up he has been introducing some outcross bloodlines that offer calving ease. I'm not sure in the short term that is going to make him more money but it just might in long term because he is being a leader not a follower.
It's one thing to identify a problem but it's a completely different thing to be part of the solution. The old saying "build it and they will come" might be something for some people to consider.
To acccomplish our goals we need way more (clapping)

and way less (argue)

and maybe some more of <beer>
