Are there products that you just can't do without for getting cattle show ready? Or for just on the ranch period? Or is there a piece of equipment that you find yourself using everyday?

For me EZ-ALL & Revive are a tie. I use both daily. I think EZ All was one of the best new products in a long while. I like Revive for conditioning the hair & also use it the night before a show.

The piece of equipment would have to be my roto brush. I use it for training the leg hair to stand up & also use it weekly on the entire body. It stimulates the hair & can also train it to pop.

What are your?

In this order:  Turbo Fans, Rotobrush and combo Squeeze Cute/Scales, these items allow the boys to take care of a lot of every day chores without my intervention.  The Revive, Kleen Sheen and EZ-All sprayer are nice but just icing on the cake, a clean well organized barn is a must for me.

I guess my favorite "job" with the calves is still blowing on them.  I ought to spend more time with the brush, but I can spend hours blowing.

Everybody has a job they like best.  My six year old has already latched onto the job of mixing the feed.  He loves it - especially adding the supplements (vitamins as he calls it) and oil.  We just have to keep the bins pretty full so he can reach the feed.  When he's at the barn, he doesn't want anyone else helping him.

Big brother loves squirting whatever is in the squirt bottle on them.  I wasn't paying attention to him one night about a month ago an he decided he needed to use half a bottle of Kleen Sheen on one steer.

For us our #1 is our aluminum showbox on wheels.  My husband and I both showed when we had the heavy wooden boxes.  I can move ours and I keep it loaded with supplies.  I also like the new sullivans fogger and the e-z all applicator.

At my place there are a few necessary items that we cannot be without.

1.   We changed our ranch name to the "dead battery, flat tire ranch", so two necessary items are jumper cables and an air compressor.  We have never loaded up a trailer to go to a show/pasture without having to kick tires to make sure they are up.  Every time my wife feeds with the old tractor, it has no power to the battery, so we always have to jump it, even if it has started every time for the last 10 months.  Last night, I had to pull the baling tractor out of the barn, it has new batteries, but they won't last when you leave the bale monitor on for 4 days.  Had to jump it.....

2.   Blower.  We use it to dry calves, clean out radiators, clean out the interior of the ranch wagon (believe me, it works great), blowing off the round baler, filling up the kid's pool,( you know, the kind you get a wal-mart that has the inflatable tube around the top).  It also doubles as a garden hose water exterminator... when it is cold, just un-hook the hose from the spigot, put the end of the blower on the garden hose, and wa-la, instant hose drainer.  I have been known to use it as a peanut launcher at certain shows, but probably best not to go into detail, since there are innocent kids on this board.  Hook it to a fogger for getting rid of flies in the barn as well.

3.  Baling wire.  I have yet to go to a show and set up without it.  I cannot do any muffler work on any....ANY piece of equipment at the place without it.  Tried the #9 wire, but my wrists aren't what they used to be.

4.  9/16 inch wrench.  Is everything in the world made of 3/8 inch bolts??????????????

5.  Pliers.  They work for straightening out skip tooth combs, fencing, and fixing the calf jack at the most un-opportune time.  They serve well as a jumper when your solenoid goes bad on your truck during a freak rain storm when you are 15 miles from home in the pasture.  I have used them for hitch pins when we can't find the one we pulled from the bale wagon, and it's 100+ degrees, the kids are whining to go home, and I'm on my last cold one in the field.  They also work well as a cheater bar on a 9/16" wrench when you need that "added Power", not to mention that they go with baling wire hand in hand.  These are the tools that M Bar must have to lead a prosperous and healthy life.  A Men.

Have we all forgotten the many uses of the 5 gallon bucket. Not only are they great for hauling grain and water they can also be used for storing all sorts of randon stuff we don't want to lose, until we forget what bucket we tossed it in. Every farmer has a bucket in the back of their truck filled with bolts, nuts, wire and a grease gun. My dad is the worlds safest driver but I have seen him on multiple occasions whip a u-turn in the road to go pick up a bucket he has spotted in the ditch. If you forget a cooler at a show put some ice and beer in a bucket and you have a makeshift cooler. But its most important function is achieved by simply turning it over and using it as a chair.

Itk - That is so true.  Seems like we either have 5 gal buckets coming out the wazoo or NONE.    Feast or famine at our house.

right now, it would have to be a little yolke that goes onto my swather that broke on my dads first path around the field and no one makes anymore.  Other than that it would have to be the old reliables like duct tape and bailing wire.  Also the 9/16 wrench is a great one.  You can pretty much take my whole truck apart with 3 wrenches.

Dodn't forget that a bucket also makes one of the best step ladders around. We all need to get together and start up an info-merchial that highlights the five gallon bucket and all of it's amazing uses. There is a good chance we would all be millionaires. I would say that you stumbled onto a goldmine here Charles.
