Who are the best market steer judges on the show circuit these days?

Who sees, talks, and places market steers the best? I'm curious to hear everyone's opinion...

I know everyone has different opinions, but Ryan Rash will always be one of my favorites, I can listen to him talk a class all day long, they don't come much better than him IMO.

Kara Settles from Nebraska is young but impressive. She sees through show tricks and really evaluate the animals. Bob May also is good

Agreed, he won't judge much in Texas bc they own The Showbox and run the TCCA but he knows cattle.

I will also agree on this, saw him judge a show for the first time this year and he knows what he wants and will give you awesome reasons.

I was really impressed with Jirl Buck. he was great with the kids and you could actually follow him from class to class. He was consitent in his type can kind.

he is a prime example of someone who grew up in a barn soaking up what a good one looks like and learning how to explain it, they guy can call cattle (and goats)

I am a huge fan of Scott Greiner and Scott Schaake they read the cattle for what they are and use the type that i think are more correct and complete for the market. I bet if you had a least favorite judge thread there would be some interesting comparisons haha but these two guys are the top of my list but Ryan knows cattle about as good as anyone as far a seeing them as babies to slick and feed out and his reasons are always entertaining and spot on.

I like Scott Schaake as well. I also like Paul Maulsby and Chris Skaggs. A lot of people have been impressed with Brandon Callis.. If you want to see them place cattle, Paul and Brandon will be sorting the cattle at the Pecan Valley Classic in July 9-10...

Any young and upcoming judges to keep in mind? Our fair is always looking for new judges.

There are so many good judges out there right now.

Callis, Dave Allen, and Mark Core (Denver 2019) are all excellent.

Rash does a good job and is entertaining although I follow him closer on the heifers than steers.

Duello does a great job.

Kevin Jensen is rock solid.

The list goes on and on. 

Where I believe the challenge lies is finding a judge that has absolutely no ties to anyone in the ring.  There are times when I watch a show and think to myself......wouldn't want to be that guy and have to try to keep all of these people "happy".

Good luck with finding someone that has no ties to anyone showing. Some of the best cattlepeople have never and will never judge a show.I prefer someone that knows the cattle business and knows how to make it work.Fancy clothes and reasons that are rehearsed in front of a mirror don't impress the old guys ring side that actually know.
